How do I calculate my LDL?

Polymer CardioChek and CardioChek PA FAQ
CardioChek Lipid Panel Test Strips will automatically calculate LDL values (require CardioChek PA analyzer). If using individual test chemistries with either CardioChek PA or CardioChek analyzers, first test Cholesterol, HDL Cholesterol and Triglycerides using new, unused test strips.

What is LDL?

Home Cholesterol Testing- Frequently Asked Questions
Often called "bad cholesterol," LDL is the main source of cholesterol build-up and blockage in the arteries.

Why is a direct measurement of LDL important?

The Most Comprehensive Cholesterol Test - VAP - Atherotech, ...
The NCEP ATP III recommends that LDL be directly measured as a new feature of the guidelines. LDL is not directly measured in today's routine lipid panels. Rather, it is calculated using the Friedewald equation: [LDL] = [total cholesterol] ? [HDL] ? [triglycerides/5]. Thus, calculated LDL is falsely low in patients with elevated triglycerides, and it does not correlate well in patients with diabetes, coronary disease, or other atherosclerotic diseases.

What are some of the methods for measuring LDL subfractions?

Quantimetrix Corporation
szlig;-Quantification (ultracentrifugation), non-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) are being used to determine LDL particle subfractions.

What is the importance of low density lipoproteins (LDL)?

Quantimetrix Corporation
The health risk is much clearer when you understand that low density lipoproteins (LDL) carry about 70% of the blood's cholesterol.

What is wrong with just measuring total LDL?

Quantimetrix Corporation
LDL subfractions provide a more in-depth assessment of CAD risk while the commonly performed total LDL cholesterol test gives limited information.

LDL Cholesterol: What is it?

FAQ
Low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is the major cholesterol carrier in the blood. At high levels, LDLs can slowly build up in the walls of the arteries feeding the heart and brain. It helps form hard, thick plaque deposits--build-ups that can sometimes bulge out into the bloodstream, but that often cause no trouble for years or decades. The danger: Plaque can rupture suddenly, releasing chemicals into the blood that cause clots.

What is the difference between HDL & LDL cholesterol?

Answers to the most frequently asked questions about exercis...
Physicians used to be concerned about the total amount of cholesterol in the blood. Now they want to know the amounts of the two main forms of cholesterol, HDL and LDL. An elevated level of HDL, the "good" cholesterol is praised. On the other hand, LDL cholesterol is called "bad" because higher levels indicate an increased risk of heart disease. Cholesterol is necessary to life. Without it we wouldn't be able to digest fat since it is a key ingredient in bile.

What is Live Distance Learning (LDL)?

Applied Training Services
LDL is instruction in an online event where one or more students "meet" together with an instructor at a scheduled date and time.

What do your LDL numbers mean?

FAQ
Optimal: less than 100 mg/dL Near optimal: 100-129 mg/dL Borderline: 130-159 mg/dL High: 160-190 mg/dL Very high: greater than 190

Why is more LDL information important to me?

Quantimetrix Corporation
Your level of LDL could come back "normal" on a regular test, even though there could be dangerous subfractions within the LDL. Lipoprint measures these LDL subfractions, which are believed to be a major risk factor for heart disease.

Why am I getting N/A for my LDL cholesterol result?

Cholestech - FAQs
There may be several reasons for an LDL cholesterol result of N/A. The LDL cholesterol is calculated as follows: LDL=(TC-HDL-TRG/5). If the triglyceride result is >400 mg/dL (>4.51 mmol/L), the calculated LDL cholesterol will not be accurate and the LDL result will be reported as N/A. If the TC, HDL or TRG results are outside the measuring range of the instrument, the LDL will also not be calculated and will be reported as N/A.

How does lowering LDL cholesterol help?

Kardovite Heart Drops - traditional herbal ingredients promo...
Lowering your LDL cholesterol level will help keep plaque from building up in your arteries. This makes it easier for your heart to get the blood and nutrients it needs. If you already have coronary artery disease, your doctor will probably want you to lower your LDL level by at least 30 to 35% through diet, exercise and, possibly, medicines. Another way to help is to increase your HDL level.

Can walking everyday lower LDL cholesterol?

Trilogy UltraLogix Vitamin Supplements Q's And A's
reduce the potential risk of cholesterol even if the cholesterol level remains the same. It seems it is exercise's ability to change the size and density of cholesterol- carrying protein that results in less prescription medications to reduce LDL cholesterol. Always consult your physician to help you develop

Question: Why am I getting N/A for my LDL result?

Point of Care Services Ltd is a company dedicated to the pro...
Answer: There may be several reasons for an LDL result of N/A. The LDL is calculated as follows: LDL= TC- ((TRIG/2.19)+HDL). If the Triglyceride result is > 4.3mM/L, the calculated LDL will not be accurate and the LDL result will be reported as N/A. If the TC, HDL or TRIG results are outside the measuring range of the instrument, the LDL will also not be calculated and will be reported as N/A.

Lipids were measured, but are there data for LDL particle size and number?

The official PROactive results website
No. At the initiation of the study, LDL particle size and number were not routinely measured in clinical practice. Lipid parameters measured included triglycerides, HDL cholesterol, and direct LDL cholesterol. Back to the Top Serious adverse events were included in the endpoint analysis and were defined as: fatal, life-threatening, required inpatient hospitalisation, or occurred while in hospital and prolonged hospital stay and resulted in persistent or significant disability or incapacity.

What is the name of the medical blood test for the specific new-found "bad" part of LDL?

Most Frequently Asked Questions
A new test for LDL subfractions is called the VAP test and is available from Labcorp, a nationwide reference lab.

Does Bios Life lower LDL even if there is no change in diet?

Do you know your cholesterol numbers?: Dr Peter Vederghem an...
Yes it does. The studies that we have done with Bios Life, and there are currently over eight, have all shown that people taking Bios Life did not do anything about their diet. So they did not need to change their diet in order to see the success of Bios Life on LDL levels.

Is lp(a) also a marker for inflammation? Is lp(a) the real villain in LDL?

CRP on NPR - IronOnline Weight Training Forum
Yes, and yes/no. LDL may not have a 'real' villian at all, other than perhaps the size of the particle density. I'm way open to that, although my cohorts at thincs.org would disagree. The real villian in LDL is genes and lipoprotein lipase (LPL), among other things I'm sure that's over my head. Nifty connection to INSULIN (yet again and again); a study done on LPL and small particle LDL shows glucose metabolism connections.
