We ask for this much information because, "Anyone you ask can GUESS at what spine you need, but the more information you give US the more EDUCATED that guess can be." The standard string material, B-50 is requires no extra "figuring". A fast flight string requires a jump in spine of 5-7 pounds. The Artificial Sinew string is heavy, thick, and stretches very much.

All hardwoods that are used for flooring are very dependable and resilient. They do have their different scales of hardness that you will find by referring to the Janka Hardness and Stability Chart. Some of the more popular species of wood that are used for flooring are Hard Maple, Red Oak, Cherry, Ash, and Birch. Of these species listed, even though they do have different scales of hardness, you will not see a great difference under normal wear and tear.

Some people need a particular species of wood, because they are matching to an existing floor. When matching to an antique floor, it is particularly important that you order flooring that will be milled from material that was cut at the same time as your existing floor. This means making sure that your new flooring is coming from original growth and not new growth trees. We also want to make sure that we match the species that you currently have.

This varies depending upon what part of the country you are in. Pressure Treated lumber is usually Hem-Fir in the West and Southern Yellow Pine in the East and South. The framing lumber is also regionally dependent. It can be Douglas-Fir, SPF (Spruce-Pine-Fir), SYP (Southern Yellow Pine) or Hem-Fir. The roof trusses can also be a variety of the same species, but will usually have msr (Machine Stress Rated) lumber for chords.

Woodfold Roll-Up Doors are offered standard in Maple, Birch, Cherry, Mahogany and Oak. We also offer other hardwood species on special request, though due to quality standards, we don't offer softwood species.

All lineal mouldings are stocked in Poplar; some also in Red Oak. Hand-carved woodcarvings are available in Lindenwood, with some also in Maple and Cherry. Custom species are available upon request - see "Our Services" for list of custom species.

We can utilize most any species that is suitable for structural purposes. However, we often use Douglas Fir because it combines beauty and structural strength comparable to many favorite hardwoods without the shrinkage and weight issues.

We build over eighty percent of all Kodiak Log Homes out of Engelmann Spruce, it has a good strength to weight ratio, is a beautiful blonde wood and is native to many dry climates. We also build many log homes out of Douglas Fir (attractive grain colour and superior structural strength) , Yellow Pine (full of character), and Western Red Cedar (attractive color in the grain and a natural resistance to insects and decay) for an up-charge of fifteen to thirty percent.

We work with oak, poplar, maple, and cherry on a regular basis. Other hardwoods are available as limited basis.

We offer the most common hardwood species including maple, mahogany, cherry, walnut and oak. The wood keys are sold by the linear foot, to be cut to size by the customer, or on a special order basis pre-cut to size by Hoffmann. Lead-time for cut-to-order wood keys is usually 4 - 6 weeks. We can manufacture wood keys in species other than the ones listed, please call for details.

The heartwood of naturally durable species such as western red cedar, yellow cypress and white cedar will all resist decay to some degree, but it is variable. The amount and type of natural fungi-toxic chemicals deposited in the heartwood determine how durable the wood is. The sapwood of all species is considered non-durable. Heartwood of second growth may be less durable than the best of the old growth but probably less variable.

There are perhaps 10-12 different wood species that are acceptable and commonly used for fence applications. What is best for you will depend on what is readily available in your area and adaptable to the soil and climate conditions on the property works. BACK TO TOP

For the beginning JOAD archer, especially at scout camp or the local YMCA, wood (or even fiberglass) arrows are used because of their low cost. Wood and fiberglass are quite sufficient for beginners and work well. It's only after the archer has begun to group well that s/he will need "better" arrows. Better arrows are made from aluminum or carbon/graphite, or both.

Choosing a species of wood involves more than selecting a color to match your décor. Different species of wood flooring will experience color changes at different rates. In general, more-common species such as oak and hickory will experience minimal color change over time, while less-common species, like cherry will show more color change over time. A Heritage representative from would be happy to recommend the type of wood flooring product that best suits your needs.

Basswood. This is the least allergenic wood in North America. Nobone is allergic to Basswood. That’s one of the reasons doctors love our units. Also we use no plywood and no toxic glues of any sort. We finish it in Beeswax to ensure purity in the preservation process. Some cheaper imported units use Hemlock. This is a cheap wood that rots easily and is used for packing crates in Canada. Some higher end saunas charge a premium for Basswood, or for Poplar, which is also non-allergenic.

Only hot-dipped galvanised or stainless steel nails should be used with CCA, CA or ACQ-treated wood. If CCA, CA or ACQ is specified, extended periods of wetting are presumably anticipated, and common nails corrode in wood under moist conditions. Electroplated galvanising is not thick enough to resist the corrosion effects under moist conditions. Stainless steel should be used in areas near salt water.

Most decks are constructed of pressure treated lumber. A penetrating deck stain tends to work best on the horizontal surfaces (flooring) of decks due to constant foot traffic. The vertical surfaces of decks and fences may be stained or painted according to personal preference. Check the porosity of the wood before attempting to stain by sprinkling water on the surface. If the water beads, then the stain will not penetrate the wood.

If the sign will be used outdoors you should choose a wood that holds up well outdoors. I usually use Northern White Cedar because it's harvested locally here in Northern Michigan. But Western Red Cedar, Cypress, White Oak, Walnut, and Black Cherry also are good choices for use outdoors. There are probably other species that would work just as well. Try to avoid knots because they can chip away and can throw off the accuracy of your cut when you bump into them with the router bit.
