Lycra (Spandex) is softer and has greater stretch capability allowing for more flexibility. Its fabric has a rubberized elastic material. This is especially important for Synchro Swimmers. However due to the rubberized elastic material Lycra tends to breakdown earlier than Polyester because the chlorine attacks the rubberized elastic material in the fabric.

Latex caps are very inexpensive. They do not last very long. They can pull on hair or be uncomfortable. Silicone caps are more expensive but last longer and may be more comfortable. Both latex and silicone caps will keep the hair relatively dry. They may help keep goggle straps from slipping. Lycra caps are the most comfortable and do not pull hair. Laminating resin is greenish blue in color and is the basic first coat of resin; it is used to adhere the cloth to the blank (this resin will only dry tacky and not sandable!) Sanding or hot coat resin or filler coat is almost the same thing; it is lam resin with surfacing agent (styrene monomer and paraffin wax) mixed in. I prefer handwash or automatic washer with "delicate" program: warm water (near 40c) and some neutral detergent with NO chlorine or bleach, like ones used for kids' clothes. Please buy a washing bag (used widely to wash legwear) and always close all the zippers on the suit, if you're using a washing machine.
