Use no more than a ratio of 10% by volume of the Styrene Monomer for thinning, as higher concentrations will degrade the resin's properties. Do NOT use with epoxy.

Answer: NO! The resin used in swimming pools must be protected by gelcoat or the resin will wear away within 4-7 years causing chaulking and cobalting. This must be avoided at all costs. You can use fiberglass instead of the provided polyester skin, but we don't recommend it. While fiberglass requires less maintenance, it is actually more fragile than the skin that comes with the kit. The polyester skin will flex when it comes in contact with another object, whereas the fiberglass may crack and require extensive repair at home. No, epoxy resin is only needed when the foam inside the surfboard is exposed. In other words, when you can see and touch the foam. If you have a small ding in an area like the nose or tail where the XTR foam is exposed, you don't have to repair it. It will not change color or gain any weight due to the closed cell foam. The water will not penetrate the surfboard. You will only need to fix this small ding for cosmetics and for safety. See similar questions...

Laminating resin is greenish blue in color and is the basic first coat of resin; it is used to adhere the cloth to the blank (this resin will only dry tacky and not sandable!) Sanding or hot coat resin or filler coat is almost the same thing; it is lam resin with surfacing agent (styrene monomer and paraffin wax) mixed in. Resin is nothing more than a 2 part mixture of liquids. But when combined at a ratio of 50% - 50% you get a hard durable product. Bowls and figurines just to name a few. They use a mold for products inwhich they pour the resin mixture into and it hardens very quickly. KLASS KOTE epoxy coating consists of two distinct components. Side A Epoxy Resin and Side B Curing Agent. The two components are mixed in a 1-to-1 ratio. A chemical reaction occurs between the two parts generating heat and turning the mixture into an inert, hard film with the previously mentioned characteristics.
