Upper-division credits are earned for course work that is considered to be of a junior or senior level at a four-year institution. At Marshall University , upper-division courses are those numbered in the 300s and 400s. Course work completed at a community college is always considered lower division.

Students should apply for upper division after completing certain prerequisite courses for their intended major but before the end of their second year (more precisely, before completing 60 credits).
