No. The TATP is a training programme, not an employment programme. The TATP offers training and support for graduate students, and in some cases undergraduates, who have already been hired as TAs in their own departments, or who know they will be hired in the near future. The TATP is not a career centre and has nothing to do with the hiring of TAs on campus.

You need to contact the administrator with the TA's name and UIN number so that the TA can be added to the main CPR data base and be given instructor status. You must then: Login -> Enter as Instructor/Designer -> Access Courses -> choose your course -> Manage Students -> Add Instructor. Please check our undergraduate course descriptions. You are likely to teach a course with a course number beginning 10, 11, or 12. You may need to master specific programming languages such as C++ and Scheme to be able to perform your teaching duties.

Instructors cannot add users to a course. To request that a user be added as a TA, please send email to blackboard@uno.edu.

All hiring of teaching assistants at UofT is done internally by individual departments. Most graduate departments at the University of Toronto offer new students a teaching assistantship when they are accepted into the department. This is not always the case, however, and no department is required to offer TAships to its students.

Teaching Assistant assignments will be made in late August. You will work with a faculty member and your main duty will be to grade assignment papers. Graduate students do not usually teach classes. You will have office hours for undergraduate students to meet with you. A few hours each week will be spent maintaining web pages for faculty.

Sometimes students enter our program while already teaching on an emergency permit or intern credential. Others begin teaching while still in the program. While our preference would certainly be for you to earn a credential before entering the classroom, we understand that the teacher shortage has lured many people into the classroom before they complete a credential program. If you are already teaching and want to continue teaching you will need to earn a credential.

Your two student teaching placements will be in two counties that employ Belmont graduates. We will keep you informed of Job Fairs and teaching positions that are open. We will also assist you in developing a resume and help you with your interviewing skills through our teacher  gateway interviews.

When you register for this service (additional $29 fee), you may pre-select three (3) positions you are qualified to teach. As soon as a school posts one of your pre-selections, you receive email notification immediately. Within this email message, you can view the ad. Then with one click, you can notify the school of your interest and include a link to your resume in the Resume Bank. This immediate contact gives you an advantage over other applicants.

The value of a Research Assistant Professor (RAP) position is controversial. Many people feel that under the right circumstances, the RAP position can provide a good opportunity toward establishing an independent research career. Others view the RAP position as a potentially exploitative position that too often resembles a postdoctoral fellowship, with little long-term career potential.

Every teacher is provided with a local teaching assistant. They all speak English and help the teacher with conducting the lesson in the first week. They also help out through the term with general administrative support and translate and assist you with any problems you might encounter. In primary (elementary) and in some junior schools a Chinese teaching assistant is assigned for every class you teach.

The first payday is usually September 15th. The second payday is the the last working day of September. The remaining paydays are the last working day of the month.

If your registration fees are to be paid by your department, you may want to defer payment until the funding sources are available. (e.g., stipends, TA fellowships, etc.) Please note: If your graduate award does not include Health Insurance, you must pay it at the time of your payment plan enrollment. If you are paying your registration fees with your teaching assistant salary, you may set up a payment plan to correspond with receipt of your paychecks.
