APEX and RAITE DVD drives can recognize CDR, CDRW, and VCD. SONY and PANASONIC DVD drives can not read the VCD that stored in the CDR media. However they can read VCD on the CDRW media. You only need to insert the a disc into DVD-ROM not matter it is DVD, VCD or SVCD, DVD X Player will launch automatically and play the contents for you as long as your DVD-ROM support standard read and write formats. It is just insert and play. You don’t need to bother which type of format to choose for the disc to play. If you find that the inserted disc cannot play correctly, it may be due to the non-standard format of the disc being playing.

If you have this kind of compatibility issue, please do not assume that all the movies you have received are bad. This is really not bad at all. There are times that some VCD's may not be compatible with your DVD player. As you know every manufacturer wants to be unique with their product. Thus, it makes the DVD and VCD providers life a little difficult. Again this is nothing more than a compatibility issue.

The system volume level is set too low. In order to hear sound, both the system volume level and the MacVCD volume level must be set sufficiently high. To determine whether the system volume is set too low, see whether you get sound playing something else. Go to http://www.apple.com/trailers and play one of the movie trailers featured there. Sometimes this problem is caused by media incompatibility issues. If a DVD/CD does not play or work after you have burned the medium, choose another medium type or brand and repeat the burning process. Eventually, you may have to lower the burning speed. Many writers are not compatible with cheap or old media (blanks). The quality of some blanks is actually so bad, that the specified maximum speed cannot be reached in most cases. Find a combination of writer, disc and player that work together.
