It is important for you to be familiar with the kinds of questions asked on the GRE. There are several ways to prepare:

The Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) score is required for applicants to many graduate-level programs in the United States and at international universities. The GRE includes the General Test, composed of verbal, quantitative, and analytical sections, and Subject Tests on specific academic fields. Some universities require only the General Test while others will request applicants to take Subject Tests related to their planned area of study.

A visit to http://www.gre.org will answer most questions, including how to sign up for the exam. Some who have done well on the exam recommend prep courses while others find a prep manual adequate. What works for you will largely depend on your study habits. If you are disciplined enough to study on your own and can learn and review concepts from a book, a prep manual will likely suffice.

The Library does not administer the test, but good study guide is the Library Workshop Manual on the library's webpage. A printed version is on reserve at the Circulation desk.

If you are hoping to matriculate in a professional school the year after you graduate, you should take these exams in the spring of your Junior year. If you plan to do a gap year after you graduate, you should take the MCAT or GRE in the spring two years before you hope to matriculate. For example, if you plan to matriculate in Fall 2010, you will be applying in Fall 2009, which means you should take the MCAT or GRE no later than the Spring of 2009.
