There is no absolute maximum size for attachment. The maximum size for the actual original attachment is depending on the content of the attachment. The actual original attachment is not downloaded but the content is received for viewing. Before sending the content of the attachment to the device it is compressed and some elements like images are left out from the content.

As with most email systems, there is a maximum size for an email attachment that the email system will accept.
