If your scanner does not come with an Image Capture compliant scanner drive, you could have a look at TWAIN-SANE. It creates a bridge between TWAIN and the Mac OS X image capture system, and it comes with hundreds of scanner drivers based on SANE, Linux' scanner driver framework. So there is a good chance that there's a driver for your scanner, too.

It is too early to say. We intend to make a version of Kaleidoscope for Mac OS X. However, unlike applications which can be Carbonized, low level hacks like Kaleidoscope need to be completely rewritten for Mac OS X.

Microsoft Excel for Mac OS X is not currently supported. However, support is planned for the next release. SQL Converter 2 for Excel does work under Apple's Boot Camp, provided that you have a copy of Microsoft Excel for Windows.

The current version will not work on MAC OS X. Maybe at a later date, feel free to port it to objective C and make it work without running pygtk under X windows but otherwise there are no plans to port it in the near future (unfortunately) we want it running on OS X as well!

The dynamic library system in Mac OS X is convoluted. There is a compatibility layer for use with the dlopen(3) suite of functions, and this is currently what libnaw uses. Unfortunately, the compatibility layer is broken, largely due to the convoluted nature of the native loader API. Eventually, libnaw will switch to the native API and try to overcome these issues.

The keyboard locale may change after sending a message based on the capabilites of the font being used. If the message font that you are using does not natively support the active keyboard locale, the keyboard locale will reset to the default locale for the font. The solution to the locale changing when you send a message is to select a different message font that supports the keyboard locale that you are using.

Pixelmator supports and uses many Mac OS X technologies, such as Core Image, Open GL, Automator, ColorSync, Dashboard, Spotlight, QuickTime, and many others. Pixelmator is built with a modern Mac OS X-only programming language called Cocoa.

I am afraid that Apple's legal department does not want anyone distributing an Aqua scheme, so we will not post any such schemes on the Kaleidoscope Scheme Archive. Although Aqua schemes are probably available elsewhere on the web (please do not ask us for URLs), we ask that you respect Apple's right to control its intellectual property and not use these schemes with Kaleidoscope.

DenyHosts should work under Mac OS/X. You will have to edit your denyhosts configuration file (typically denyhosts.cfg) according to the Mac OS X version that you are running:

The Mac OS X installer is asking for a username and password for an account on that computer that has administrator access. This proves that you have permission to install the software on that computer. This account is usually the account you use to log into that computer. If your computer is set up to log into an account automatically, you will need to know that password.

Yes. You can run xscanimage, the front end to SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy), either as a GIMP extension or in stand-alone mode. This supports Mustek and HP flatbed scanners, as well as the Connectix color QuickCam camera.

Many of the built-in text elements are specified in a ‘language pack’ file. These files are named ‘texts_xx.properties’ (where ‘xx’ is the two-character language code) and are located in the BluPlusPlus folder. Using a text editor, open the appropriate language pack file and find the line that reads ‘comment=Comment:’.

The Inform compiler for OS X must be run through the Unix Terminal utility. If you double-click on its icon from a Finder window, nothing much happens: a Terminal window opens and runs the compiler without parameters, which triggers a "basic usage" message and ends up by stating that no compilation was requested. The compiler needs to be told which file to compile, and we must oblige by explicitely typing it. There are two ways to approach this problem.

Mac OS X's Terminal maps Page Up and Down key to scroll the session but doesn't pass that key to the application. Also Apple's laptops don't even have a Page Up and Down keys at all. To get around this problem Zinc maps Control-W and Q keys as Page Up and Page Down respectively.

Not for the current version 3.3.4. However, since Mac OS X is essentially Unix, it is much more likely that we will be able to provide a proper port of the standard VNC codebase in a future release.
