It is important to realize that the power requirements of a fully active and open baffle loudspeaker, like the ORION, are quite different from those of a conventional box speaker. Woofer, midrange and tweeter drivers each have their own power amplifier assigned to them. The amplifier need not have any more output power than what is needed to push the driver to its full cone excursion. Any more power than that can lead to damage of the driver.

The problem is that most people tend to oversimplify the problem of weak signal reception and how it can best be solved. While adding a preamplifier will boost weak signals so that they can be heard easier, this device also boosts ambient noise as well as already strong signals. The biggest problem here is that by increasing the strength of already strong signals, you are bombarding your receiver with a large amount of radio frequency energy it might not be able to handle.

Many people use the wrong size cable for their systems but working out what power cable you need is actually very simple. Add all the ratings together. ie total each amp so a 2x50wrms amp would be 100, then add the totals together. This gives you a number representing the current draw, in amps, of your system. Then match the current with the length of the cable in the following table to give you the correct size cable to use.

For the M & MW Series units the recommended operating height from the ground is the lowest possible height up to a maximum of five inches (12.7 cm). This is typically 3" to 5" (7.5 to 12.7 cm). Most clean channels there should be little or no background noise the higher you have the gain or if you are using the overdrive channels when you stop playing there will be a significant background noise.
