The year code shall correspond to the last numeral of the year of production. Example: 2002 would be coded as 2.

Lewis Boyd filed a patent in 1869 for "an improved mode of preventing corrosion in metallic caps" i.e. the glass or "porcelain" lining. This innovation kept food from coming in contact with the zinc in the screw caps. Boyd was actually one of three men who gained control of the patent for screw caps and jars originally filed by John L. Mason in 1858.

The dates stamped on our products are the suggested "sell by" date. The items are guaranteed fresh ten (10) days past the suggested "sell by" date. Letters appearing with the date help us identify internal production pertaining to the specific production run.

In the USA, our products have a standard "Use by Date" which is one (1) year from the date they are manufactured. In Canada, our products use a "Julian Date" to indicate the date of manufacture. The first two digits are for the year and the next 3 digits indicate the day of the year. The product is good for 1 year after the Julian date. Example: 04253. This means that the product was produced in the year 2004 on the 253rd day. It should be enjoyed by the 253rd day of 2005. Back to Top

Our frozen products are guaranteed (if kept frozen) for 2 years past the manufacture date. Codes are embossed on the side of each product box. Our grocery products (canned and jarred products) are guaranteed for 36 months past the manufacture date. Codes are imprinted on the top of each product can or jar.

The date code is the numbers and letters coded onto a package that indicates the date of the product, not the expiration date. This could be a Julian number.

We currently have a Best Before date on our packaging that reads "Best Before MM/YYYY". For example, a date code that reads "Best Before 05/2007" is best if used by the end of May, 2007. Prior to the Best Before date coding, the manufacturing code was used to determine the best before date. The first six digits provide the best before date which is printed as DDMMYY. For instance, a code that begins with 260507 has a best before date of May 26, 2007.

It tells the year, day, and time of manufacture. The first number is the year, the next three numbers is the Julian date (1-365), and the last four is the military time of manufacture. A code of 81961350 shows a date of July 15th, 1998, 1:50pm.

The best way to do this is to use the method Class.getResourceAsStream() which will give you an input stream from which you can read the text file in the JAR. This technique can be used to get parameter info from a text file for an applet. See www.uq.net.au/~zzcmumme for an example.
