Graduate nonmatriculated (GNM) is a student status at the University designed to provide access to graduate courses for qualified post-baccalaureate individuals who are not currently seeking a graduate degree, but who may later want to apply these credits toward a degree. The graduate department with which they seek this status evaluates the applicants. They will determine whether the student is qualified to do graduate-level work in the courses to which they seek entry.

Nonmatriculated (NM) status is an undergraduate status, and students in this status do not earn graduate credit, even if the courses they take are at the graduate level. Credits earned in this status can apply to an undergraduate degree if the student later becomes matriculated or may be used in preparation for graduate school. The credits can never be counted as graduate credit even if the student later becomes a graduate student. You do not need to apply for Nonmatriculated (NM) status.

A student who is later admitted to a graduate program at the University of Washington may apply a maximum of 12 applicable GNM credits (or any combination of GNM and up to six approved transfer credits totaling 12 credits) towards a master's degree. If you become independent you will have to apply to the Charity Commission in England and Wales or the Scottish Charity Regulator for charity status.
