Can I use biodiesel in my existing diesel engine?

Frequently Asked Questions
Any diesel engine can operate on Biodiesel with no modification to the engine. Older vehicles often must have their fuel lines changed from natural rubber to synthetic rubber hoses. Using B20 (a blend of 20% biodiesel and 80% petroleum diesel) requires no precautions before use. If you want to use a blend higher than B20, such as B99.9, you will need to be aware of a few precautions before proceding. B100 is compatible will ALL diesel engines as long a few precautions are taken.

Do oil burner manufacturers recommend the use of Bioheat® fuel with their equipment?

Biodiesel.org - Home Heating Oil
this time the emergence of Bioheat® fuel is much too new for burner manufacturers to comment on. However, in work accomplished throughout the northeast, organizations like Carlin, Beckett and Power Flame (notable burner manufactures) all are reviewing Bioheat® fuel. Bioheat® fuel appears to have little or no negative impact on a burner’s performance while providing emissions, sulfur, lubricity, global warming and health benefits. See similar questions...

Can I use gasoline engine oil in my diesel car and vice versa?

Veloil Company Limited.
Gasoline and diesel engines operate according to different engineering principles and burn completely different fuels. Gasoline engines require a volatile, high octane fuel whereas diesel engines run on a low octane and relatively low volatility fuel. Gasoline engines usually operate at higher temperatures and because of their composition and the high temperatures produce entirely different combustion products than does diesel fuel operation. Once blended will the Bioheat® fuel stay blended with my home heating oil?

Biodiesel.org - Home Heating Oil
Yes. The biodiesel in Bioheat® fuel goes completely into solution with heating oil and once it is blended it does not come out of solution and will not separate. Bioheat® fuel contains biodiesel. Biodiesel provides a cleaning effect and does have a tendency to dissolve or loosen some sediment that can be deposited in tanks and fuel systems from years of conventional diesel fuel or home heating oil use. This cleaning effect is dependent upon the blend concentration of biodiesel. See similar questions...

What do I do if my oil burner fails to operate?

Hi-Ho Petroleum: Frequently Asked Questions
Make sure all switches are in the on position. This includes the emergency switch at the top of the stairs and there may also be a work switch on your heating unit itself. Turn your thermostat well above the room temperature and not just a few degrees. If in doubt, turn it all the way up. Make sure you have oil in your tank. There should be a gauge on indoor tanks and we can provide you with a tank stick if you have an in-ground tank. Press the reset button just once. It will try to start. See similar questions...

Is it SAFE to use BioDiesel in my Diesel Engine?

FAQ about Making and using BioDiesel Fuel - OfficialBioDiese...
Burning BioDiesel that meets the ASTM D-6751 specification in your vehicle is safe. There have been well over 45 million miles of real-world driving with B20 blends in a wide variety of engines, climates, and applications. Our belief is if you are careful & follow the common sense guidelines spelled out in our book, you can make BioDiesel which can meet or come very close to the ASTM D-6751 specification. What Engine Oil and Lubricants should I use?

CraneCams
Crane Cams does not recommend the use of synthetic oils during the initial break-in period for a new camshaft. Use a good quality grade of naturally formulated motor oil during this period. If you choose to use synthetic oil after the engine has been broken in, change the oil filter and follow the oil manufacturer's instructions. See similar questions...

Should I use "Oil Restrictors" in my engine?

CraneCams
No, Crane Cams does not recommend the use of oil restrictors. The oil is the life blood of the engine, not only lubricating but cooling the engine components as well. For example, a valve spring builds in temperature as it compresses and relaxes. This increase of temperature affects the characteristics of the spring material, and if excessive, will shorten the life of the spring. Oil is the only means the spring has for cooling. Which engine oil should I use for my vehicle ?

Veloil Company Limited.
Choice of oil depends on a number of factors. Type of engine, gasoline or diesel, and if turbocharged. Also the type of service eg heavy work or just normal city or country driving. The ambient temperature must also be considered. For Thailand and neighbouring countries this is normally warm to hot. For Thailand higher viscosity mono and multigrade oils are most popular eg. Should I convert my diesel engine to run Straight Vegetable Oil (SVO)?

Biodiesel - Community Fuels - Makes Sense
No, not everyone should convert to SVO. Even though some of the first diesel engines burned unadulterated peanut oil, much has changed in engine design since then. We now have to lower the viscosity (thickness) of the oil to work efficiently in today's diesel engine. We can accomplish this by modifying the vegetable oil (turning it into biodiesel through a chemical reaction) or by modifying the vehicle (via a SVO conversion kit that heats the vegetable oil to a suitable viscosity).
