Why are the magnets ceramic and not metal?

THE LEVITRON - The Physics
The magnetic field of the base pushes sideways on the electrons in the top as they spin through the field. In a metal top, which conducts electricity, the electrons would flow. Resistance in the metal would damp these 'eddy currents' and dissipate the top's rotational energy, causing it to slow down and eventually fall. The ceramic top is an insulator, so the eddy currents cannot flow. See similar questions...

Unplug the mister and dry it off. Unscrew the shiny collar ring holding the gold-colored disk in place (you may use the "key" from the "Replacement Kit" if you have one). Be sure NOT to scratch the disk or mar it in any way, and never touch the surface of the disk (either side) with your fingers as the oils from your skin can reduce mist output.
