Yes. We realize the vast scope of the Air Force is difficult to visualize in the classroom. Therefore, we give you the opportunity to visit an Air Force base for a firsthand look at how it operates. You'll be accompanied by an experienced, active duty Air Force officer. Every semester we conduct a base visit. AFROTC normally covers lodging and travel expenses.

Yes. We have an active base visitation program. We try to schedule at least one trip per year. In recent years we have toured Warner Robbins AFB, GA; Eglin AFB, FL; Bolling AFB, Washington DC; and Patrick AFB, FL. There are also several opportunities to visit Moody AFB (10 miles from VSU) to get as much exposure to the Air Force as possible. AFROTC also offers several summer programs hosted at different bases around the world.

Air Force ROTC classes and credit information are listed in your school catalog. If you wish to enroll in as a Freshman or Sophomore (GMC), simply sign up for Air 151 in the Fall and Air 152 in the Spring. Your schedule will come up with the class you signed up for plus the leadership lab on Tuesday from 4-6 pm. Yes, but only one is required: Field Training, which normally occurs the summer after your sophomore year. There are several other summer programs open to cadets who have just completed their freshman or junior year. These Professional Development Training programs are all voluntary.

You can put as much or as little time into Air Force ROTC as you want, as long as you satisfy all academic and Leadership Lab requirements. The staff knows your studies are critical for your success in college, in the program and in your future. With that in mind, the staff will make every effort not to take you away from your studies. A good estimate of the total time commitment per week would be 5 hours for freshmen and sophomores and 7 hours for juniors and seniors.

The Aerospace Studies 100 course is devoted to an introduction to the military profession and the Air Force. Aerospace Studies 200 is a mini-history course that examines the growth and development of airpower and the role of airpower in the present day. Both of these courses are worth one credit per semester. Aerospace Studies 300, offered in your junior year, is a leadership and management course.

We try to have all uniforms issued within the first couple weeks of the semester (at no cost to you). If it doesn’t fit, we will arrange for alterations. You will be responsible for keeping the uniform clean and presentable. All AFROTC books are free of charge and will be issued the first day of class.

Yes. Air Force ROTC offers one, two and three year scholarships to members of the Air Force ROTC program. These scholarships cover up to $15,000 of tuition and fees, a book allowance, and monthly stipend (between $250-$400; tax-free) per month Your chances of being awarded a scholarship will depend upon your Air Force Officer Qualifying Test scores, grade point average, Physical Fitness Test, performance in ROTC, and the amount of money available from Congress.

Indeed you can. Many of our students do not start with a scholarship, but earn one eventually. Still, at any given time, about 60% of our cadets receive financial assistance.

Assuming you've completed the AFROTC application and meet AFROTC height and weight standards, we will issue you a complete uniform and tell you how to arrange for having alterations completed (at no cost to you) within the first few weeks. However, you are responsible for keeping the uniform clean and presentable.

Most AFROTC instructors possess a master's degree and all have considerable world-wide Air Force operational experience. ROTC duty is a demanding job; therefore, each instructor has been handpicked by the Air Force. In addition, since the instructor is part of the academic faculty, the university has a voice in the selection.

Of course, we hope this does not happen, but if it does, the governing instruction for such situations for ASCP, POC-ERP and SOAR is AFI 36-2011, paragraph 6.3.3. This instruction says that these members revert to their former status to complete any prior service obligations. This means for you would be returned to active duty in the grade you held when you separated to complete any remaining service obligation.

Yes. As a general policy, Air Force ROTC does not pay tuition for summer course work for ASCP, SOAR, or POC-ERP students. AECP students are required to attend school during the summer (except the summer they attend field training) and Air Force ROTC pays for their tuition. Please remember, one summer must be reserved for attending Field Training.

No. They (and their families) are not entitled to military healthcare benefits until they are commissioned and re-enter active duty. Like all other college students, they are responsible for their own health care arrangements. Many colleges and universities offer group health insurance plans for purchase or as a part of their enrollment fees...check with the school you want to attend to see what services, if any, they offer.

The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) recruits, educates and prepares college students to become US Air Force officers while obtaining a college degree. The Air Force ROTC program is designed to prepare you to assume positions of increasing responsibility and importance in the modern Air Force. We offer a Four-Year Program and a Two-Year Program.

If you are on scholarship, you may quit AFROTC without penalty up to the first day of your sophomore year. If you do not have a scholarship, you have up to the first day of your junior year to quit without commitment.
