HDF and MDF are man made products, manufactured from the waste thinnings of trees. Basically, hardwood and softwood chippings that would otherwise be discarded. They are then blitzed with resins in a huge blender and then compressed under massive pressure to form a dense sheet material. HDF stands for High Density Fibreboard, and MDF Medium Density Fibreboard. This process produces a very stable , strong and workable material.

Pateco HDF is typically more durable, resists shrinkage and swelling due to seasonal changes. The difference is in the type of resin used in making of the board. Mostly, MDF boards use some type of urea formaldehyde resin. On the other hand, Pateco's molded door skin is made with phenolic formaldehyde resin. Pateco's (Masonite) molded door skin is the only known molded door skin with such resin that makes boiling test possible.

MDF is a wood product made from wood pulp. This results in a very dimensionally stable material that has no pitch pockets, sap streaks, grain tear out or knots. This makes an ideal surface for painting.

Hierarchical Data Format (HDF) is a library and multi-object file format for the transfer of graphical and numerical data between machines. HDF was developed by the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is currently supported by the HDF Group (THG), a not-for-profit corporation. HDF means "High Density Fiberboard". Masonite's HDF is made of 99.9% wood. Wood fiber is molded under intense heat and pressure into 1/8" (3.2mm) thick sheet of fiberboard. A typical HDF has a density greater than 50 pounds per cubic foot or 800 kg per cubic meter. The density of Pateco molded door skin (from MASONITE International, U.S.A.) is 1.04 kg/m3.

We do not use Chipboard or Melamine. We often use MDF; mostly for internal surfaces and especially for the superior finish on painted furniture. We are happy to accommodate clients' wishes and can quote for ply, blockboard or solid wood as substitution materials.

We no longer sell MDF shutters. While similar in appearance to a solid wood shutter, we found they had two major drawbacks; the weight of the panels resulted in them sagging in the middle especially when hinged together and also screws tended to pull out because of the pressure on them and then didn't re-thread

The National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) developed HDF and makes it freely available. HDF is a data model and extensible data format for self-describing files that was developed independently of netCDF. HDF supports both C and Fortran interfaces, and it has been successfully ported to a wide variety of machine architectures and operating systems. HDF emphasizes a single common format for data, on which many interfaces can be built.

We only use pine professional stretcher bars that are industry standard. We consider MDF blocks with fabric glued to them to be far too heavy and inconsistent with quality canvas stretching workmanship.

There's a huge debate on this one. MDF is know to be seriously bad if inhaled as the sawdust is extremely fine.

CMI manufactures another product, MiraTEC Trim, using the same ingredients and manufacturing technology which has performed exceptionally well on the market since 1998.

If you are using PO.DAAC read software in IDL, there is no need to install the HDF library. If you are using PO.DAAC read software in C or FORTRAN, you will need to install and link to the HDF library. The HDF library is available from the HDF Group (hdf.ncsa.uiuc.edu). Before running make, please ensure that you edited the Makefile to include the correct location of the HDF library on your system. The default location of the HDF library in the example Makefile provided by PO.

A 2: Although you don't need to have your data in one of these formats to use Slicer Dicer, they do offer convenience advantages. They are designed to be general-purpose formats appropriate for many scientific applications. The key advantages are cross-platform portability (e.g., data written on a supercomputer is readable on a PC) and self-description. The latter means that useful information about the data, often referred to as metadata, is stored with the data.

Yes! Rub-R-Wood© can be sanded and cut. It can be installed with an air gun or be predrilled and nailed. Nails should be kept 6" apart and 3/8" from any edge.
