No, all equipment is provided by the camp, including protective helmets. Be sure to bring jeans or long pants, and shoes with heels are preferred. No sandals or flip-flops are allowed while riding horses. However, if you do have riding helmets, clothing, or shoes, feel free to bring your own gear.

Depending on the floor covering, no special equipment may be needed. Participants may prefer to bring a yoga or exercise mat, blanket or towel to place on the floor beneath them. We often recommend that participants bring a blanket or firm cushion to make sitting on the floor more comfortable for the lower back.

All of our horses are young and in training. At this time guests are not permitted to ride them, however any of our horses will gladly accept carrots & apples from the kitchen.

For your first ride, we would suggest starting from Grindavík with local horseman who will lead you across the lava fields to the Atlantic coast, and then back around the mountain that is between us and the ocean. Finish with a relaxing swim at the Blue lagoon! During the summer, an evening ride in Thingvellir National Park is one of the greatest experiences in Iceland.

The horses at Turpin Meadow Ranch ride six days a week, from Monday to Saturday. Sunday is our horses’ day to rest! No, riding with more than one person on a horse limits the control of the rider. However, children ages five and up usually demonstrate that they can handle a horse for a trail ride or other activities. Children under five can ride a horse within the safety of our corral.

Although horseback riding is our most popular activitiy at the ranch, all activities are optional. This is your vacation! Individual childcare can be provided, but is NOT included in the rate plan. Normal sitting rates for the staff will be added. Blackwater Creek Ranch hosts a full bar.
