Duratemp is plywood siding with a 1/8" Douglas Fir wood composite face. It looks natural, resists dents, checks and cracks. It is inherently stronger, lighter and more durable than engineered wood sidings, and provides a low-maintenance, easy to paint surface. Our Duratemp-sided structures are constructed with ½" Duratemp plywood siding. It's a great product and the most economical siding choice.

You can side your shed with plywood siding which mimics the look of vertical car siding (see the examples below). This siding is usually available in both wide and narrow (3" to 4" )simulated board widths. While it is a matter of personal taste, we feel that the narrow board pattern is more in scale with the size of our sheds. The main drawback with plywood siding is that it only comes in 8 ft. lengths, so sheds over 8 ft tall will have horizontal seams in the areas taller than 8 ft.

The American Plywood Association recommends that opaque (solid) colors be applied to plywood sidings of any softwood species for exterior application. Plywood is widely used in European 'bots for armor, but is generally passed-over by U.S. competitors as being too "low tech". It has some very attractive properties; foremost in my mind is that it does not bend. I've seen many 'bots disabled by bent armor interfering with wheels or other moving parts. Building a new house with oak hardwood floors throughout. One room will be a basketball court. Does this room need any special subfloor besides/in addition to the plywood flooring that is throughout the house? Thank you. SELECT: Should be solid face, can allow some veneer splits, no wider than 1/16" knots are allowed, but must be sound and tight, not more than 1-1/4" in diameter. STANDARD: Face will be made from "C" veneer, can have knot holes in face thru 1st layer of veneer only, knots are limited to 1-1/4" in diameter. D GRADE: All fall down from above, including some face or back veneer missing or loose.

The basic difference between marine plywood and exterior plywood: marine plywood does not contain voids (edge voids are easily filled with wood putty). Taping the seams and edges with fiberglass will effectively seal exposed edge voids. Both marine and exterior plywood contain essentially the same glues. Because boats of this nature are not left in the water for extended periods of time and the difficulty in obtaining marine plywood, we feel that exterior plywood offers distinct advantages.

The durability of plywood is determined by the quality of the veneers and the glue lines. Obviously, the rot resistance of the veneer timber will determine this aspect of the finished product. The best grade, the so called 'marine ply', utilises durable timber throughout, usually mahogany. This is very expensive.
