Why do old covers get so heavy as they get older?

insulating spa covers FAQ
The foam a cover's cores are made of is called Expanded Polystyrene and is made of small beads that are expanded with steam. Once expanded they are dried and then "attached together" simply by compressing them. The more pressure they are compressed under, the high the density of the foam. The individual "beads" are waterproof! HOWEVER, water can saturate between the beads. To prevent (actually reduce) water absorption, the foam cores are "sealed" in polyethylene.

Why do spa covers get so heavy over time?

Spa Cover Frequently Asked Questions FAQ
We, like almost all insulating spa cover manfacturers, use Expanded PolyStyrene (EPS) foam as the core of our covers. We do this because EPS is actually very strong and energy efficient when compared to its weight. The weakness in EPS is that it will eventually gain weight as it gets waterlogged. EPS is block-molded. Small beads are expanded into a chamber and infused with steam. When the steam is withdrawn the beads have been molded into a block the size of the chamber.

How does the boat handle in heavy seas?

FAQ
We have run in conditions ranging to 6-8' on the nose and on the beam. The stabilizers do a great job; do not be without them. Even with them, we did roll a lot once in Long Island Sound out by the Race when we got 6-8' of square green water on the beam when max tidal current opposed unforecasted 25kt winds creating that awful short steep chop we all hate. Otherwise she's really steady. We've run comfortably in 5-7' beam seas with a 12 second period.

What no satellite, notams, winds aloft, etc.?

Frequently Asked Questions - PilotGEEK
The initial implementation of the PilotGEEK service provides those services that I need the most. The others are very valuable, but tend to be more planning related which I prefer to do from a full size computer terminal. PilotGEEK will continue to evolve and add new features as time permits. The features added will primarily be those most requested by registered users (or me). I currently have a list of things I plan to add but am always looking for more suggestions.

How do I handle the heavy-hitting readings -- those with many challenging cards?

Tarot900 FAQ
Bonnie] A reading that is very challenging can be made easier by taking a deep breath and breaking the reading down into bite sized pieces. Forget the overall picture - that creates instant panic. :) Look at each card in turn, think about what the card by itself means, and what the position that it holds within the spread means. Take a quick look at the surrounding cards, and get a feel for how they interact.
