Several years ago Pixtran developed software drivers for most all of the high-speed scanners and named them "ISIS". Inexpensive low volume, low speed scanners connecting to PC's via serial/parallel and now USB ports developed "TWAIN" as drivers for these scanners. If CAP_FEEDERENABLED is not supported or it is but it cannot be set to true then it is safe to assume the scanner is a flatbed-only device (at least, this is the functionality that can be accessed from its TWAIN Data Source). If CAP_FEEDERENABLED is supported and can be set to true then the scanner is equipped with a feeder. far as I can tell, there is no reason to ever use the TWAIN driver. The TWAIN driver is the interface used for "acquiring" an image directly into a graphics program. The TWAIN interface was originally written for scanners where it makes more sense.
