We welcome volunteers with all skill levels. Training will occur on-site for all of the tasks. If you have special construction skills, email Melissa with your skills and we will direct you to the project that could most use your skills.

In addition to English, you should preferably be fluent in the local language of the country in which you would like to work.

Community convening entails eliciting the various perspectives of participants and working with the group to create an effective response to a situation. Aside from leadership skills for drawing the group together and motivating participation, conveners need to be active listeners, able to understand varying, even conflicting, opinions. This means that conveners must learn to balance the needs of many to accommodate differences and make room for all participants to have a voice.

It takes artistic talent, knowledge of 3 dimensional form, creativity, the ability to work with others, salesmanship, a lot of hard work, and a bit of luck of course.

You may practice foreign language skills in the English Learning Center. You can listen to audio and video recordings, and use software and online databases at the Center.

The skills you require depend on the kind of journalism you want to do. If pressed, most journalists will tell you that the most important skills are persistence, imagination, self-discipline and huge self-confidence. More specifically, journalism covers a range of tasks.

The skills for a chief judge are quite different than those for a sitting judge. There are a lot of administrative duties, such as staffing issues, applying expense policies, assigning judges and JPs, liaising with government representatives, writing business reports, and analyzing statistics, that sitting judges do not normally perform. The skills required include diplomacy, public speaking, organization, report writing, and efficiency.

We can all improve our writing ability. Learn along with your student as you, too, Learn to Write the Novel Way. Use the workbook to take your student (and you) from bungled beginnings to a polished, published piece. Correct answers to technical grammar questions are provided in the Teacher's Guide. You don't need to know it all before you start.

If you are having difficulties with any of your subjects you should discuss these with your tutor. If you would like additional programs to develop your language and study skills, the Faculty of Economics and Commerce Teaching and Learning Unit offer a number of programs which are very helpful. Students are also encouraged to discuss any problems with their Program Co-ordinator or staff in the Professional Programs Office.

English reading and writing instruction begins in the second grade. While students' reading in English may be below grade level in the beginning of the year, the skills they have been acquiring in French transfer to English. By the end of the year, most students are reading at grade level, and by the end of fifth grade many students are reading well above grade level.

Each applicant's English proficiency is assessed in four skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.

ESN (the Erasmus Student Network) can help you find a Spanish person with whom you can practise your conversation skills.

A good background in French is very helpful; however, all students (even beginning) will benefit greatly from the exposure to the spoken and written language. A commitment to speaking French is necessary.

No! The program is cultural in nature but is also for a short period of time. Many countries throughout the world teach English as a second language and most participating students are quite proficient in speaking our language. If you have taken a foreign language in high school and elect to visit a country that speaks that language, you will be able to gain some conversational ability. Most students do not find language to be a barrier to having a great exchange experience.

Every country protects jobs for its own people but imports foreigners with needed expertise. So degrees and experience are essential. (Semi-skilled workers are recruited from poor countries.) About forty kinds of employers hire--U.N., governments, firms, voluntary agencies, cultural institutions, etc. The biggest vocational areas are education (all levels), health care, computers, science and technology, business and finance, agriculture and many other industries.

The person supporting a network's participation in the MBONE should have the skills of a network engineer, but a fairly small percentage of that person's time should be required. Activities requiring this skill level would be choosing a topology for multicast distribution with in the provider's network and analyzing traffic flow when performance problems are identified. To set up and run an mrouted machine will require the knowledge to build and install operating system kernels.

You must have good enough eyesight, since our products are all miniatures and are 1/12th the size of the real object. Many people like to work with a good magnifying glass, or scissors instead of the knifes we supply, but neither of them is required! All of the people at Tiny Details that make the samples in the kits have glasses and do not use a magnifying glass or scissors. You must have a steady hand since many of the products require cutting things out of paper, folding and gluing them.
