There are 4 possible test results: "negative", "positive", "indeterminate", or "result not available." A "negative" test result means antibodies to the hepatitis C virus were not found in your test sample and it is extremely unlikely that you have been infected with the hepatitis C virus.

The most commonly used syphilis tests screen for an antibody to the syphilis organism. Lupus patients sometimes have a very similar antibody. This similar antibody, the antiphospholipid antibody (aPL), can cause an incorrect positive result on a syphilis test. If the doctor suspects that the patient may not really have syphilis, he may choose to then run a different, more complicated and expensive test that checks specifically for the syphilis organism.

It is very important to realize that because there are a number of risk factors of atrial fibrillation, including both genetic and lifestyle/health factors, receiving a negative result for the deCODE AF? test does not mean that one is at low or no risk of AF. Back to top of page

It means a laboratory could not confirm the presence of Hepatitis C antibodies in a particular blood sample. It could mean that an individual may be in the process of converting from being negative to being positive. It could also be due to other medical factors. In either case, it is recommended that the individual be re-tested.

It is important to bear in mind that common diseases, such as atrial fibrillation and stroke, occur as a result of the interplay of both environmental (including lifestyle and other health and medical conditions) and inherited risk factors. As a result, having a specific genetic risk factor for a common disease does not mean that one will necessarily develop the disease; and not having a certain risk variant does not eliminate the possibility of developing the disease.

An insufficient blood result refers specifically to the Home Access® Hepatitis C Check Test system. It means that the Hepatitis C test could not be performed on the blood sample that was sent to the laboratory. This happens most often because there was not enough blood to test, there were white spots in the circle, or the blood did not soak through all the way to the back.

If your first HIV test is negative, it means you had no detectable HIV antibodies at the time you were tested. However, if you were only recently exposed to the virus, your result may be negative even though you may be infected. A negative result does not mean your partner is negative or that you will not become infected in the future if you are exposed to the virus.

If your first test is positive, a second test using the same blood sample will be performed to confirm the first result. If the second test also is positive, an additional confirmatory test will be performed to make sure your results were not "false-positive." If the third test is positive, it means you are infected with HIV. However, it does not mean that you have AIDS. The average time from HIV infection to an AIDs diagnosis by a physician is usually seven to 15 years.

A negative result means that Stachybotrys chartarum and Aspergillus niger molds were not detectable at the location you tested. You may have them in very low concentrations that are not detectable with QuickTox™, and you could still have them in other locations — testing those may be desirable. Or you may have other species of molds present in varying amounts. Regardless of your result, you should clean up any area that has visible mold and be sure to fix any moisture problems.

A negative test only means that there was no sign of blood detected at that time. It doesn't mean that you don't have cancer. Blood in the stool may occur intermittently or not at all. This test does not substitute for a regular physical and rectal examination by your physician.

It’s normal for the result on the pregnancy test to be either fainter or darker than the control line. The reason it may be fainter could be due to less hCG in your urine, especially very early in your pregnancy. It may be darker if your pregnancy is more progressed. Occasionally the test may display a ???shadow' line when the positive result should be, disregard this if you cannot see it when holding the test at arms length away from you.
