No. Computer hard drives and duplicator hard drives are two separate file systems, so they cannot communicate. The USB and Firewire connections' allow the computer to use the duplicator as a CD or DVD external burner. You can use either of those devices to store the data on a disc from a specified CD or DVD drive on the duplicator. Once you create that disc, you can use it as your master disc to load into the hard drive and make your duplications. No.

You can save to some locations (C:/temp, My Documents) on the hard drive. You cannot save to the desktop. However, once the computer reboots, everything is cleared from the hard drive! If the computer freezes while you are working, for instance, you could lose your work. We recommend using your student storage space and saving frequently on multiple storage devices to avoid losing your work.

Each person who has logged into the computer will have his or her files and settings stored in a folder named with his or her user name. Only the person who is logged in (or an Administrator) can access his or her personal folder. Right click on the PDF link and select "Save Target As" from the menu options (if you have Internet Explorer) or "Save Link As" (if you have Netscape). You can temporarily save files to the workstation's desktop. These files can then be e-mailed to yourself. Files saved to the desktop will be deleted at the restart of the machine. If you are working with a library laptop, you can check out the zip drive for large files or ask for a laptop with CD burning capability. You will need to provide your own storage device: ie. floppy disk, CD, zip disk, or memory stick. CDs and floppy disks are available for purchase at the Circulation Desk for $1.

To get the best result, choose Create Image File command from Drive menu (or context menu) to copy the damaged data to another hard drive. You can create the Image of segments of the partition, Image of the whole partition, or even Image of the full hard drive.
