Speech and language disorders (the person is delayed by years in the development of one of these skills): Difficulty producing speech sounds (developmental articulation disorder). The person might mispronounce certain letters or letter combinations. Difficulty using spoken language to communicate (developmental expressive language disorder). The person has difficulty with verbal expression. Difficulty understanding what other people say (developmental receptive language disorder).

The definition of learning disabilities varies and may include not only reading disabilities and dyslexia, but also problems with spoken language, writing, or reasoning ability.

The majority of all individuals with LD have difficulties in the area of reading. Some of the most common types of LDs are: dyslexia (affects reading, writing, and spelling); dyscalculia (affects math skills); dysgraphia (affects handwriting and spelling); dyspraxia (affects coordination); and information processing disorders (affect language development, reading, writing, and math).

No. MCCC provides support services and accommodations as described above to qualified students with learning disabilities. We have a Student Assistance Center for students on Individual Education Plans (IEPs). We have full-time Vocational Special Education Coordinators and tutors who assist students with testing, homework, writing, reading, provide taped academic lessons, and scheduling. This year, we are serving 150 special needs students. English, math, science and social studies classes are modified for students with IEPs.
