The term developmental disabilities refers to a variety of conditions that become apparent during childhood and cause mental or physical limitations. These conditions include autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation, and other impairments. Developmental disabilities have a variety of causes, which can occur before, during, or after birth. Early Intervention Services are available for qualifying children from birth through age two.

Yes. These courses are intended ONLY for people with developmental disabilities, family members or caregivers. Theses courses provide first hand perspectives of how services and supports should be delivered. Staff members that are accompanied by the people that they serve are welcome to attend.

Community developmental disabilities services are provided in Colorado through a system of 20 community centered boards. The boards (CCB) are the Single Entry Point to provide intake and Resource Coordination (Case Management) services and may either purchase from numerous other service providers, or provide services themselves. DDRC is the Community Centered Board responsible to Colorado Developmental Disabilities Services for residents of Jefferson, Summit, Clear Creek or Gilpin counties.

The definition of learning disabilities varies and may include not only reading disabilities and dyslexia, but also problems with spoken language, writing, or reasoning ability.

The term developmental disability refers to a severe and chronic disability that is attributable to a mental or physical impairment that begins before an individual reaches the age of 22. These disabilities include mental retardation or intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism, and disabling conditions closely related to mental retardation or requiring similar treatment.

If your baby has CDI, he will probably need treatment for the rest of his life. Sometimes these kinds of DI remit, get better, or stop around the age of 40 to 50 years, but that occurs in only about 10% to 20% of patients. The answers to your other questions depend on the cause of his CDI. If it is genetic, he will not have any other abnormalities.

Our Internet courses are often written in large font, for easier reading (and those of us with 'old eyes!') We strive to have written material, or transcripts, available, should there be difficulty hearing a video. All of our online courses can be purchased in an optional ‘hard copy’ in the event that there are difficulties taking a course from the computer. The lack of a time frame for course completion is helpful to those with learning differences.

Perhaps. Under the current SRS contract with CDDOs, everyone who is eligible and needs services to successfully remain in the community must receive appropriate services. If the CDDO determines the eligible person does not need services or determines the person does not need the level of services they are seeking they may deny funding to pay for the requested services.

To get case management, tell the CDDO you need case management. A person with developmental disabilities or a family with a child with developmental disabilities may request case management from any qualified person or organization and the CDDO must help arrange for the chosen case manager to provide the service. The provider of case management is required to affiliate with the CDDO.

A person cannot be terminated from SRS/CDDO Contract-funded services unless at least one of the following occurs: The Secretary of SRS determines a person to be inappropriate for community services based on a finding that the person presents a clear and present danger to self or others in the community. The Secretary's determination needs to be made and shared with the CDDO within 10 working days of receipt of the letter of the Director of CSS.
