How often do I need to seal limestone?

Questions & Answers
If limestone is sealed correctly the first time, it should not require further sealing for many years.

How do I seal limestone?

Questions & Answers
Limestone should be free of dust and dry prior to sealing. A low-pressure garden spray or similar device is ideal. Apply from the top of the stone and work down the wall. For areas close to windows and doors the sealant can be applied using a paint brush. Whilst reconstituted limestone, being a manufactured product, is denser it can still discolour and therefore it is advisable to seal the stone if the original colour is to be retained. Q - Do I need to seal my stone?

Welcome to St. Croix Stone!
A - Sealing the stone is not required. However, use of a high-quality, "breathable" concrete sealer will reduce water penetration into the stone. Breathable sealers will allow water that does absorb into the stone to come out. Breathable sealers will extend the life of the product by reducing freeze/thaw stress and blocking contaminants from entering the concrete. CAUTION: Sealers will have varying impact on color. A sample should be tested before applying to your project. See similar questions...

Since the understructure never receives any real sunlight and gravity dictates that water will not stay on the underside, it is not necessary to seal that. See similar questions...

Do I need to seal my deck and so with what?

Nothin' But Decks - Custom Decks and Design - On the Cutting...
Yes. If you elect not to seal your deck it will age prematurely and will not last as long as a properly maintained deck. A properly maintained deck in our climate should last 30 years. for what type of sealer, we highly recommend to use cost as an indicator. There are definitely reasons why a gallon of Brand X costs $15.00 while Brand Y costs $40.00. Lower cost doesn't necessarily mean better value but it definitely could mean lower performance.
