Why is my Tattoo Peeling and Flaking Off?

Tattoo Nation
Peeling and flaking of a new tattoo is perfectly normal. Before it actually begins to peel, the tattoo will look like it's covered with a whitish, cracking film. Then you'll see white or translucent flakes of old, dead skin start to peel off and some of the flakes may even contain some ink. Sometimes you can actually see a duplicate image of part of your tattoo peeling off - it's rather disconcerting, but it is also perfectly normal and there is no need to panic.

Do I ever have to paint my siding again?

My paint is peeling what can I do?

Norm Potter - F.A.Q.
Unfortunately aside from stripping, priming and repainting there is very little that can be done once paint starts peeling. Once paint begins to peel it will continue, even if you get a good paint job over top, the old surface underneath will continue to peel causing the new paint to peel off as well.

What if I just paint over the spores on my wood siding?

Artillery Fungus- Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
That will probably seal them in. It may solve your problem, but will give a pebbly appearance to your paint job. Each repainting will seal in the artillery fungus even more. There are no fungicides legally registered (by EPA) against the artillery fungus. Bleach, if it worked, would be very temporary, as it leaches out with each rain. We tested 14 different fungicides in the laboratory, but have to take the experiment to the field.

Should I paint or stain my siding?

Eichler Network: FAQ on Eichlers
The available historical evidence shows that Eichler used stains, not paint, on his homes, inside and out. One can speculate that, at least for the vertical-grooved siding, stains were employed so that the grooves stayed crisp and clean (the edges weren't softened by the paint), and some of the grain of the wood showed through (redwood siding was used throughout the 1950s). It is also possible that Eichler used stains because labor and materials costs were lower than for paint.

The paint is peeling off my top rails, should I replace them?

Swimming Pool FAQ
The only time it is really necessary to replace top rails is when they are rusted through or they are bent beyond repair. Most of the time the rails can be removed from the pool, sanded and repainted. I have even seen people take their rails to an auto paint shop to be sand blasted and painted. They come back like new, and in any color you want.

Why is this siding so difficult to find?

EichlerSiding.com - Owned and Operated by Jeff & Annette Nic...
Mr. Eichler created a wonderfully unique home when he built his Eichler subdivisions. He used creative building methods and designs. One aspect of his creativity was that he used plywood siding that was milled solely for his homes. Over the years as the homes have grown older they often need special attention to the exterior. Since Eichler siding is unique to Eichler homes, it is not stocked in local lumber yards. For over eighteen years we have been milling siding to match your special home.

How difficult is it to paint the car?

FIA Frequently Asked Questions
Preparation for paint is straight-forward and doesn't require any fiberglass work. The seams where the mold pieces meet must be filled with standard body filler, but the basic body shape doesn't require anything more that a skim-coat of polyester or epoxy filler to facilitate blocking. E.R.A. doesn't do painting in-house, but we do have two very reliable sub-contractors: Tony's Auto Builders ($4000 and up) - 413-586-6557, and Connecticut Custom Car - ($5000 and up).

Will a fresh coat of paint hold down an old peeling coat of paint?

Never Paint Again UK & European wall coatings, painting & de...
One common belief in the consumer market is that paint is glue and will hold down a previous coat. If anything, it may put stress on an old dry brittle coat, causing it to peel faster. Check to see if there is an old coat of paint under the new finish when you are presented with a peeling problem. No, one thick coat of paint can cause a variety of problems.

What is the best way to paint my siding?

EichlerSiding.com - Owned and Operated by Jeff & Annette Nic...
Although we use the best products possible for our siding, the life of your new siding depends greatly on the paint job it gets. You must use a good quality primer/sealer and a high quality top coat that is compatible with the primer to get the best results. Make sure the edges are primed/sealed BEFORE installation. Once your siding is installed it is impossible to seal the edges properly. The prime coat is the most important coat. Oil/alkyd primers are recommended; latex primers also work well.

What causes peeling?

SOS Painting
Peeling is the final result when a paint film loses its adhesion to the substrate. Peeling may occur between coats of paint (intercoat failure), or all the paint coats may peel from the underlying substrate (total film failure).

What do I do about peeling and how do I avoid it?

SOS Painting
Slick, glossy or non-porous surfaces - Prepare the surface to give it more 'tooth' (a rougher surface profile), so the paint will adhere better. This can be done by sanding, using a surface conditioner like Paso, or using a primer designed for slick surfaces. Dirty, greasy or grimy surfaces - Clean the surface with a suitable cleaner (like a TSP solution). Be sure to thoroughly rinse afterwards, and let the surface dry before painting.
