Students within the University System will automatically be provided an official University email address upon admission. University policy requires all students to regularly check messages sent to their University email address. After receiving the eBill notification students will be responsible for forwarding the notification to their personal email accounts.

When you establish your CNet ID (at cnet.uchicago.edu/) you will automatically be given a University e-mail account. Your e-mail address will be your CNet ID @uchicago.edu. You can access your University e-mail account from any computer with an Internet connection through cMail, the University's Web-based e-mail system. This is your choice. The email address identified when the account was created is used any time you update or forget your User ID, Password, or Pin. To change your email address a new Access Account will need to be created.

Email is made available to employees for the purpose of conducting University-related business, but occasional social/personal use is allowed providing it does not interfere with University business. I cannot send e-mail from my MegaQuebec Internet account when connected to the Internet with another Internet service provider (ISP), although I can receive e-mail without a problem.

If an e-mail account is not logged into by a user for a period of 60 days that account becomes dormant. All incoming messages to this account will bounce back to the sender. To reactivate a dormant account, simply log in. If a dormant account remains inactive for more than 90 days, all files, messages, folders and addresses are permanently deleted and can not be retrieved by the user.
