Can NiMH batteries explode?

NiMH Rechargeable Battery Information and FAQ's answered
Not likely since NiMH batteries have pressure relief seals that will open if the pressure inside the battery becomes too high. It is very important however to always follow the manufacturers instructions and safety precautions and only use a charger that is designed to charge NiMH batteries.

What are NiMH Batteries?

Frequently Asked Questions
Nickel-Metal Hydride batteries can offer up to three times the capacity of the same size standard Nickel Cadmium batteries. Due to their increased capacity and energy density features, users can expect longer talk time and longer standby time. Manufacturers can use NiMH technology to increase operational time and/or decrease the size and weight of a phone. See similar questions...

Q : What's the difference between NiCd and NiMH batteries ?

Battery Logic UK - FAQ - NiMH Rechargeable Batteries and Cha...
The main difference between the two battery types (NiMh Nickel Metal Hydride and NiCd Nickel Cadmium often referred to as NiCads) is capacity and memory effect. If you are under the illusion that rechargeable batteries are not very good then the chances are that you have been using older Alkaline rechargeable batteries (which ARE rubbish) or NiCd batteries suffering from memory effect and you have not been aware of the effects of Memory Effect. Can I charge NiMH batteries in my old NiCD charger?

batterybob.com - Small Batteries for Most Everything
No. Do not try to charge any NiMH type battery in an older NiCD charger meant only for NiCD. It could be hazardous. There are dual chargers that charge both types. Please see my item 552554. Here These batteries have been outlawed and are no longer made due to environmental issues.. You may substitute a silver oxide cell of the same size. Mercury 313 substitute with 357 or 303. Mercury 323 sub with a 309. Mercury 325 use the 392 or 384. Mercury 343 sub with a 344 or Accucell-1. See similar questions...

What is the difference between NiCd and NiMH batteries?

Airsoft Advantage
Performance - NiMH batteries will greatly out-perform standard NiCd batteries in high-drain applications. Capacity (Mah) - The amount of energy stored by the battery. NiMH has more than twice the capacity of standard NiCd. This results in much longer run times. Memory Effect - NiMH batteries can be charged or “topped-off” at any time without affecting battery life. In order to achieve optimum performance from NiCd batteries, they must be fully discharged before recharging. See similar questions...

Why should I buy NiMH rechargeable batteries?

NiMH Rechargeable Battery Information and FAQ's answered
Nimh (Nickel metal Hydride) rechargeable batteries will save you money. They can be charged up to 500-1000 times and last longer than alkaline or NiCd batteries. Our Nimh batteries are compatible with most consumer devices and are ideal for digital cameras and flash units, CD players, RC vehicles, PDA's, portable two-way radios, gameboys, toys, GPS receivers, flashlights, and many more high drain devices. How many times can I recharge my Nimh batteries?

NiMH Rechargeable Battery Information and FAQ's answered
The life of a Nimh rechargeable battery operating under normal conditions is generally around 500 charge-discharge cycles but you may experience more or less depending on the usage conditions and the internal condition of the battery. As a general rule the higher the discharge and charge rates as well as the deeper the discharge between charges the fewer charge/discharge cycles will be obtained. See similar questions...

Are Nimh batteries environmentally friendly?

NiMH Rechargeable Battery Information and FAQ's answered
Definitely yes when compared to other battery power options. Over 2 Billion alkaline batteries are used and disposed of each year in the United States alone. Disposable batteries are certainly a contributor to landfill pollution. Nimh batteries could replace hundreds of alkaline throw-aways. NiCd batteries use Cadmium, a highly toxic heavy metal that can damage the environment if not disposed of properly. (They should be recycled not discarded). See similar questions...

Do NiMH batteries have memory effect?

FAQ | Endurance Rechargeable Batteries - High Capacity AA Re...
Technically, NiMH batteries do not have a "memory effect", but strictly speaking neither do NiCds. However NiMH batteries can experience voltage depletion, also called voltage depression, similar to that of NiCd batteries, but the effect is normally less noticeable. To completely eliminate the possibility of NiMH batteries suffering any voltage depletion effect manufacturers recommend an OCCASIONAL, complete discharge of NiMH batteries followed by a full recharge. What is the difference between Nicad and Nimh Batteries?

deep cycle batteries toronto deep cycle marine batteries fue...
The main difference between Nicad and Nimh batteries is the energy density and the reduced crystalization (memory) of the Nimh battery. Nimh (Nickel Metal Hydride) batteries have more energy and will not be as prone to "memory" as Nicad (Nickel Cadium). The Nicad is known as the workhorse of the portable battery industry and is high cycling solid performer but if not charged/discharged properly will be prone to develope memory. Which are better, NiCd batteries or NiMH batteries?

FAQ | Endurance Rechargeable Batteries - High Capacity AA Re...
For most electronic devices it is better to use NiMH batteries than NiCd batteries. NiCd batteries use Cadmium, a highly toxic heavy metal, that can damage the environment if not disposed of properly. (They should be recycled not discarded). NiMH batteries usually have a higher capacity than NiCd batteries of the same size. Some people argue that NiCd batteries deliver faster discharge rates than NiMH batteries. See similar questions...

Can NiMH batteries be substituted for alkaline batteries?

About Product - China Batteries Wholesaler
Usually they can in spite of the fact that NiMH batteries are 1.2 volts and alkaline batteries are 1.5 volts. Alkaline batteries start their life at 1.5 volts and gradually drop to 1.0 volts whereas NiMH batteries stay at about 1.2 volts for 80% of their discharge cycle. See similar questions...

Can you tell me more about NiMH batteries and about charging them?

DuraTrax - Product Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
NiMH batteries are a viable new option for R/C power which provide much longer run time than similar capacity NiCD batteries. The only real concern is proper charging. NiMH, if it is to be fast charged, MUST be fast charged on a specialized charger called a delta peak. The normal peak process of a NiCD charger will overheat your NiMH batteries and dramatically shorten their life span before it ever recognizes the cells are properly charged. NiMH will slow charge just like NiCD cells. See similar questions...
