Turkey's monetary unit is the New Turkish Lira (abbreviated to YTL). YTL replaced the old Turkish Lira (TL) on 1 January 2005. However, both the YTL and the old currency will remain in circulation side by side until the end of 2005, when the old Turkish Lira will be withdrawn. 1YTL is equivalent to 1,000,000 TL.
