To get the best result, choose Create Image File command from Drive menu (or context menu) to copy the damaged data to another hard drive. You can create the Image of segments of the partition, Image of the whole partition, or even Image of the full hard drive. To adjust the number of attempts to read bad sectors, use I/O Tries in Drive Control properties. After the Image is created, you can open the Image using Open Image File command, and work with it as with original drive. (See also Q24)

If you have a Windows XP or Vista disk, you can install the Operating System and create partitions during the install. The installation will ask you how much of the drive you want to use for the Windows install, and you can specify a portion of the drive's space and leave the rest to be formatted later within Windows. To divorce the old drive, connect it back up with your eSATA cable and reboot the TiVo. While it is hooked up, unplug the eSATA cable and it should bring up the divorce screen. Follow the steps (three thumbs down, etc.) to divorce it. You can't install a new drive until you've done this divorce. Remember that divorcing a drive deletes all recordings on that eSATA drive.
