However, Kaleidescape customers can burn CDs with the music on their PC and import these CDs into their Kaleidescape System. Build a USB bridge that acts as a USB device on one side and has a USB host controller at the other end. Use a long-haul signaling protocol like Ethernet or RS-485 in the middle. Using cables or short-haul fiber, you can get ranges upwards of a kilometer, though there's no reason why the long-haul link in the middle of the bridge couldn't be a pair of radio transceivers or satellite modems. The answer is no, your AC/USB Boostaroo isn't defective. What you are hearing is the transient noise that your PC produces naturally through oscillation of your power supply and the hard drive whine caused by its mechanical spin. These noises are much more common in older PC's, but a lot of newer PC's have noise filters built into the PC's USB ports, which eliminates these noises. You can identify whether your PC has Hi-Speed or not relatively easy. Open Device Manager and expand the Universal Serial Bus section. There should be an "Enhanced" USB host controller present.
