Yes, the Coastal Professional Barbeque Grill is an indirect heat grill. On the inside of the grill there is a 1/8" thick steel baffle. This design serves three purposes: 1) A very consistent overall grill temperature so you do not have to worry about crossover grilling because the entire grill surface is very consistent. 2) You will have limited flare-ups because of the deflector shield. 3) A convective grill that cooks from the top as well as the bottom.

Absolutely, to clean the grill it is just a matter of removing both deflector shields inside the grill and you have plenty of room to work with. Just a matter of taking a paint scraper and working grease and drippings to one side and taking a regular spray hose and forcing it out the two air intakes on the left side of the grill. There are no messy lava rock or ceramics to deal with.
