APRI accepts all AKC dog registration certificates at face value if the breeder/owner is in good standing with AKC. The AKC dog can be dual registered with APRI and any litters produced may then be registered with APRI. Dual registration does not remove the current registration; it merely means the dog is now registered with more than one service.

Pedigree registrations are controlled by the State/Territory Kennel Control and that body guarantees that the puppy/dog represented on that Pedigree is pure bred from the bloodlines of the sire and dam which are shown on the document. There are significant penalties for breeders that do not provide correct details of a mating and resultant puppies to their local Kennel Control.

There is a lag time of approximately one month between the time the OFA issues breed numbers and the time this information is imported into the AKC registry. It should be noted that the AKC requires dogs to be permanently identified in the form of tattoo or microchip in order to include their OFA results in the AKC database. Effective 1/1/08, only dogs with verified permanent identification (VPI) will have their OFA data transmitted to the AKC for inclusion in their database.

Unlike some other registries in the United States, the American Kennel Club is non-profit. Registration fees pay for the administrative costs of registering your dog, for administering the sport of purebred dogs, for canine research and for many of the educational programs supported by the AKC. Just because a dog is AKC registered doesn't mean it should be bred. A registered dog simply means that it's parents are also registered with the same registry. This confers no merit in itself, it simply means that the dog's lineage is known. Most registries do not make any assertions of quality in the dogs they register. They do not restrict the breeding of their dogs and there is no guarantee that a "registered" dog is a quality specimen.

For some people an older dog that has had some training, is housebroken, and is through with chewing is just what they would like to have in starting out with an Anatolian. Whereas others just have to have that little bundle of fur to nurture and watch grow. Some people feel as though they do not truly bond with a dog, unless it starts out with them as a puppy. Others may like knowing from the start the personality and size of their new dog.

This depends entirely on the personality of your older dog. Really old dogs will not like a puppy jumping all over them, especially if they have anything wrong with them or they are in poor health. If your dog is not old or ill, it may take some time to get them used to a new puppy, but they will give in eventually. Puppies are lively and spunky and tend to not give up on making friends. Just be sure to feed them separately so there are no fights.

Dogs love company, and it is not too hard to train a second puppy or even get two at the same time and train them together. We sell our puppies with a nonrestrictive AKC (American Kennel Club) registration. What this means is that we do not require a contract saying you will not breed your dog or that you have to have it spayed or neutered. We do not charge show quality prices nor guarantee that you are buying a show dog. That's not to say that some of our puppies will not qualify to be show dogs! However, we feel that this can only be shown when a dog has reached its full growth so as to determine its faults.

Caucasians are just one of many breeds not recognized by the American Kennel Club (which only recognizes about 1/3 of over 300 separately identified breeds). There are many types of flock guardians and most countries with an agrarian culture have dogs that have been used as livestock guardians throughout history. Some of the more popular breeds, such as the Great Pyrenees, Kuvasz and Komondor, are recognized by the AKC.
