ABA is Applied Behavioral Analysis. It is a methodology that uses aspects of positive reinforcement, intensive one on one therapy and using Discrete Trial Instruction (DTI). Our sister organization MFEAT (Manitoba Feat) has an extensive definition ABA and certain standards that should be met.

In one landmark study (Lovaas, 1987), nearly half (47%) of young children with autism treated by an intensive ABA program achieved normal intellectual and educational functioning by the end of first grade. In these programs, the goal is to increase skills in language, play and socialization, while decreasing behaviors that interfere with learning. The results can be profound. No. The A.B.A. only offers one introductory level course, and our students believe that this course is still more in-depth and challenging than most correspondence courses available, at no cost, to the incarcerated. The remaining courses are all written at an advanced level and include more challenging exams and term papers. Most courses are 120 pages in length.

The library does not purchase textbooks. We may have some older editions of textbooks, which can be found using catalogUSMAI.

Students taking internet courses must pick up rented textbooks/CDs through the Textbook Library Service, located in the Lake Land College Bookstore on the main campus. Students unable to pick up and return their textbooks/CDs on campus should make arrangements to purchase these items through the Lake Land College Bookstore (phone 217-234-5275) or from other sources.

All Math courses have required textbooks. It is very difficult to take any Math course without having your own copy of the text. Homework exercises are generally assigned from the text and having access to the book is necessary when studying for tests. Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic (RFB&D), a private, nonprofit organization, provides recorded educational books and related library services to people with print disabilities. Prospective borrowers must register with RFB&D.Textbooks in large print may be purchased from American Printing House for the Blind (APH) and Library Reproduction Service.

LSU Libraries does not strive to keep textbooks for every class on campus. If you know the title of the textbook you need, you can search for it in our catalog on the Libraries' main page (http://www.lib.lsu.edu) to see if we own the book. We do not keep lists of textbooks by class, so you need to know the title and author of your textbook before you come to the library. Your other option is to see if the instructor has placed the textbook on reserve for your class.
