Configuration is actually very simple. Just go to the Proxy Configuration web page and follow the step-by-step instructions for Manual setup. The Helpdesk has included instructions spanning a wide variety of browsers to accomodate all people using the proxy services.

Some of the menu items on SLED are information resources that are not themselves World Wide Web or Gopher sites. SLED makes a TELNET connection to sites such as the Anchorage Municipal Libraries catalog, GPO Access and others. In order to connect to these sites using Netscape, you must also have what's called a TELNET "supporting application," in other words, a TELNET program in addition to your Netscape program.

The Email/ News Reader functions which come with Netscape Navigator work very well with RideWay. Once you have properly configured Netscape Navigator to run through the 'SOCKS Host' in 'Manual Proxy Mode', you will be able to browse, ftp, email, and read news from your Client PCs.

I don't work for them anymore. But it was never official during my time there (and doesn't enjoy any special status) although it appeared in every official Netscape 6.x / 7.x release. There is a bug in Netscape 4 when running in 32bit colour mode under Windows which causes the flood fill to not work correctly. Solution: change to 24bit or 8bit colour mode.

Your HTTP proxy must support the method CONNECT because a normal GET doesn't work with Gnutella connections. This is an extension to the HTTP protocol and mainly supported by SQUID proxies. It's also often deactivated because it might be considered a security problem by your provider. At the moment, the proxy support - also for SOCKS - isn't very good. The developers don't use proxies but if you think you can fix it, we would appreciate your patches.

To let the PEER agent run in the background without seeing the window, go to Options, then Preferences. Here you will see an option for Launch PEER window at startup. Make sure this box is unchecked and hit Save. This error most commonly occurs on machines with foreign (non-Roman character) sets, such as Chinese, Japanese, Hebrew, etc. Contact your administrator for help installing a version of the PEER that will handle your character set.
