Weather permitting, you will find us at the drop zone most evenings and on weekends. "Jumping Weather" is whenever we have clear to partly cloudy skies with winds under 20 mph (14 mph for students). Skydiving as a sport is self-regulated, meaning that skydivers voluntarily follow a set of basic safety requirements set by the U.S. Parachute Association. Danger, of course, is relative. People often try to compare the risks of skydiving to other activities, but this is difficult to do because of the different duration, frequency and/or number of participants. It is difficult, for example to compare the risks or SCUBA diving and skydiving. A skydive lasts about a minute, while a SCUBA dive last about 45 minutes, depending upon depth. There is a risk of injury or death while participating in skydiving. There were 3 million parachute jumps performed Nationwide in 2004 and there were 21 people killed skydiving in 2004. 19 of those fatalities were licensed jumpers outside the control of a skydiving instructor or school.
