yep - you need to keep your scalp clean to keep the itchies away [ a couple of times a week, if that, is fine ], but you don't need to get the actual dreads sopping wet and covered in shampoo. i usually put them up in a big bun to keep them out of the way, then scrub my scalp clean and let it the shampoo rinse away. you might want to tie a plastic bag around your dreads to stop them from getting wet, but being made from synthetic fibre, they tend to dry out quite quickly.

Wash your hair normally, but try not to wash your hair more than once a week. Which does not mean that you cannot shower regularly because it is the scrubbing action which pulls hairs out at the roots of the short new growth hairs, or down the length on plaits where your hair ends at varying lengths. The best method to minimise hair stress is to apply the shampoo with your hands, massage gently between all roots, run your hands through your hair and squeeze through hair to the ends.

Absolutely. You can shower with them as normal. I suggest only washing the scalp as the dreads are very much like sponges and soak up water, making them very heavy. They'll retain the water as well and thus take a long time to dry. It's rather inconvenient so it's best avoidable as much as possible. Simply tie your dreads up, mix water and shampoo in a large container, pour it on your scalp, massaging it in with your fingers.

Sometimes hair loss will show up in patches, or all the hair on your head can be lost. Since the hair on the rest of your body does not grow as rapidly as the hair on your head, you may not notice hair loss from other areas.

if you put them in securely, they should last until you get a fair bit of root growth, at which point they'll probably become a bit loose. it's generally best to take them out around the 3 month mark if you've kept them in for that long, otherwise your real hair at the roots can start to get matted and dread up :/ remember, all of my batches of loose dreads can be re-used!

A Yes, although there is generally no need to do this. That's because the fibre used in the design is non-porous and therefore doesn't absorb the everyday dirt, grime and smells that human hair does.

You may take a shower from the neck down right after surgery. It is important that soap and shampoo do not contact the operated eye. This will help avoid irritation of the eye. During this time, a family member, a friend, or your hair dresser can wash your hair while you are lying back, but you should wear your metal shield and an eye pad over the operated eye. After one week you can resume normal showering and shampooing.

You can do any or all of these straight away. The vital thing is to avoid anything getting into your eye and irritating it so that you want to rub it. Some people find that getting a partner to help is effective. You can also wash your hair over the edge of the bath, or, if you do shower-rinse your hair, try it with your back to the shower. Washing the hair more often is actually better for the hair than most people think! If you use the correct products suitable for your hair type and lifestyle, the hair can be washed daily and it should always look it's best.

No. The hair within each dread or plait needs to be clean and well defined so that it does not dread into the adjacent dreads and plaits, which would happen within one or two weeks if dreads or plaits are not sectioned. Sections are usually not visible underneath, or at back. A few sections are visible at the hairline, but they disappear during the first week and are covered by the short new growth hairs between each section.

You can wash your hair right after cataract surgery, but do not let the water run directly into the eyes.

Don't panic! Every time you shampoo your hair you lose 30-50 hairs - more if your hair is really long. Don't worry, next time you see a clump of hair in the plug hole; it is perfectly normal.
