Pipeline Fence of Smithtown Long Island
A The main difference between cedar & spruce is longevity. Northern white cedar should last on Long Island about 10-15 years. Spruce should last about 7 years. Where or how it is installed can add or take away the life of your wood fence. A wood fence installed 2" off the ground will last longer then if it were sitting on the ground. Installation near trees, brush, sprinklers, ect. Can lessen the life of a wood fence. See similar questions...

What are the differences spruce between cedar tops? Is one better than the other?

Zavaleta's FAQ
Although there are many factors that go into the quality of a top (such as straightness and tightness of grain) given premium grade wood, master luthiers are able to make outstanding guitars with either spruce or cedar, so the question of which is better is in good part a matter of taste. In general, the tone of spruce is brighter, and the tonal envelop has a more defined edge and better separation than cedar. Cedar produces a darker tonality, with a more rounded, enveloping tone than spruce. See similar questions...

What is the difference between German and Italian spruce?

Maybe nothing! I have no idea where my suppliers really get their woods, and I suspect my German suppliers are getting theirs from the Italian Alps. The "Italian" spruce that I have, from my Italian supplier, is stiffer, a little harder to drive, a little bit brighter in the mids, takes a little longer to open up, but when it does, it opens up to some incredibly rich basses and thick round trebles. FAQ about Wine Cellars
We use high quality Western Red Cedar as a very economical alternative to redwood. A consistent quality of Redwood has become increasingly more difficult and expensive to find. Western Red Cedar is non-aromatic and has no odor that can penetrate your cork and cause odd flavors in your wine, it is not the kind of cedar typically used in closet linings, etc. The cedar is very moisture and temperature tolerant, resists rot and pests and does See similar questions...

Atlanta Piano Rebuilding Grand Acoustic Atlanta Piano Refini...
The fact is that this statement is a bit of a misnomer. It is truly a question of which way the spruce wood is laminated. Spruce is selected as soundboard material because of its resonant qualities. Some manufacturers use spruce planks which they glue edge to edge or horizontal lamination. Other manufacturers use what we have come to call plywood or vertically laminated spruce. What is the difference between red cedar and yellow cedar?

Sunbury Cedar - Frequently Asked Questions
Yellow cedar is about 15% stronger than red cedar, lasts longer in the ground, holds nails better and is more bug resistant. It is also more difficult to stain because of its tight grain and oil content. Red cedar is a much more porous wood and accepts a greater variety of stains. Red cedar also has less of a tendency to warp than yellow cedar. The cost is about the same for both in smaller dimensions, but yellow cedar timbers are considerably more expensive than red. What are the boundaries of the Spruce Hill Historic District?

Frequently Asked Questions
You're right that this was (and, in many ways still is) a commuter suburb. That's precisely what is historic about Spruce Hill. The movement of the middle class away from the central city to the edges of the city, and the transportation technology, building technology and real estate speculation that made that movement possible, mark a significant transition in American history. Why cedar, what are the benefits of cedar?

FAQ
Cedar is light weight but very durable and is unique in its resistance to bugs and its ability to weather without treatment (unlike other species). No. White Cedar will last 25-30 years unfinished. There is no need to treat the wood, because it is naturally resistant to rot and pests. However, some people like a little color; for that, it is recommended that you stain the product (rather than to apply paint to it) in order to retain the natural protection of cedar. We use clear western red cedar on both gazebos, but we use different types of material. For instance, the Lake Wood uses 2"x6" wall construction whereas the Cedar Cove uses a 4"x4" post. There is a lot more material cost that goes into the design of a Lake Wood Gazebo compared to the design of a Cedar Cove Gazebo. The interior roof of the Cedar Cove gazebo is slightly knotty, while the Lake Wood roof interior is clear. See similar questions...

OK.... Where do I buy Spanish cedar?

Cigar Smoker's FAQ
Again, from humidor maker Daniel Morris DeRight "Most lumber yards do carry Spanish cedar, they just don't advertise it because they already have buyers. If you are building your own humidor, your best bet is to try and buy some from a local cabinetmaker. Better still, let them cut and plane it close to size, as cedar dust is rumored to be carcinogenic! I can't vouch for that, but I will tell you that the one time I planed cedar without my respirator on, I was coughing for several days. See similar questions...

Cigar boxes, are any made of Spanish cedar?

Cigar Smoker's FAQ
Yes, many are, and many home-builders use broken-up boxes as a source for Spanish cedar. I've used the thin divider pieces that come in many Fuente boxes to line several humidors.
