If your tractor will not start and you do not see smoke (and sometimes even when you do) when you are cranking it, then you may have air in the fuel lines (see below question and answer on how to fix). If your tractor will not start, you do see smoke while cranking, and it is fairly cold outside (<50 degrees) then it might just be the temperature. Diesel engines are notably harder to start the colder it gets outside, but this is why most diesel engines come with "glow plugs".

Since diesel tractor engines work off high pressure, if air gets into the fuel line (like when you run out of fuel) the tractor may no longer want to start up. (If you do not see smoke when you crank the engine, you probably have air in the line which is preventing the fuel from getting to the engine.

a rule of thumb, there are three things that effect starting of a diesel engine. One is cranking speed. Commonly, a diesel engine needs to crank at approximately 200 RPM to start properly. Things to check are: the condition of your batteries, the battery cables and the starter. The second is compression. Diesel engines rely on the heat generated from compressing the air in the combustion chamber to ignite the fuel. If the compression is low, the heat is low as well.

Please carefully review that Disc starting options for your computer (Mac or PC), and then using these directions, try to run your $averCD. If crawls are not starting like they should, Phantom may not have enough memory. This may be either when clicking the "Run" or "Update" links on the Admin page, or when an update is scheduled with the timer. For Macintosh, quit Phantom and then increase the memory partition by using the "Get Info" command in the Finder. The default memory partition is enough to crawl a few hundred pages. If you are crawling more pages than that, more memory will be necessary.

This behavior can be caused by many things. Make sure that you are in the WBI home directory and that you used the command Run. If you tried to start WBI by using java Run, then you should make sure that your classpath is set correctly. (The classpath must include the WBI jar files.) Pumps without a pressure release valve need to have the trigger pulled while starting the engine. This releases the pressure from the pump and makes for much easier starting. If the unit has been sitting for a long period, the gasoline may be stale, or there may be water in the gas. Try replacing with fresh fuel. Inspect the air filter to see if it is soaked with oil. If so, replace the filter along with the spark plug. Check the oil level.

If you don't have a clue as to why you cannot run jEdit, it's best to perform a step-by-step diagnosis. I've been told that the turbo version of the 2.3 diesel engine was put in the Vauxhall Frontera and the Haynes Frontera manual has quite extensive information on repairing and checking this engine.

Answer: Yes, this can be a bit of a mystery the first time, especially if it is an engine you've just built and don't know if it will run at all! The engines we call "diesels" are really compression ignition engines as the fuel arrives in the cylinder ready mixed with air where it is compressed until it reaches the Self-Ignition Temperature (SIT). Real diesels inject a mist of atomized fuel into an compressed—hence heated—volume of air where it commences to burn.

It has been my experience that almost any diesel mechanic can work on these tractors. It is, of course, best to find someone who is familiar with tractors. Many small engine repair shops and local diesel mechanics will be happy to help you with any maintenance or repair work you might have need of. If you are in the Central Texas area, I know a few mechanics who will work on these tractors at a reasonable rate.

If you get an error message from Windows when running DrJava (before the DrJava splash screen appears), you probably either do not have Java installed or it is not configured correctly. First, ensure that you have installed the Java Software Developer Kit (SDK) and not just the Java Runtime Environment (JRE). If you still cannot run DrJava, try downloading the "Jar File" rather than the "Windows App" from the DrJava home page and double clicking on it.

Many things can prevent your starting system from working. But, nine times out of ten, it's just a bad battery connection. Check the wires, make sure they are securely attached to the battery (and the screw isn't bottoming out in the slot before it reaches full tension), and make sure the faces of the ring terminals and battery terminals are clean.
