There is no single test to diagnose PCOS. A physician can often diagnose PCOS by obtaining a detailed medical and gynecological history and performing a physical exam. At the physical exam, evaluation of the areas of increased hair growth will be important. During a pelvic exam, the ovaries may be enlarged or swollen by the increased number of small cysts.
