BIT majors are annually among the most sought after graduates by employers at Virginia Tech. During the past five years BIT majors have consistently ranked among the top five majors in the university in terms of on-campus interviews. Our majors also annually are among the top majors for the greatest average number of job offers and the highest average starting salaries in the college of business.

Most of our graduates pursue careers in academia. Others are employed by government and non-government organizations. Almost all are involved in some way with teaching, research or other types of educational programs and outreach.

There is a need for radiographers in both hospitals and private radiology offices. Full-time, part-time and perdiem, positions are available with salaries starting around $20/hour. With additional experience, radiographers may also work in mammography, CT (CAT scan) interventional radiology and MRI.

The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics lists medical assisting as one of the fastest growing occupations in the country. According to the Arizona Business Journal, medical assisting is the number one Hot Job in Arizona (January 10,2003). The rapid growth continues.

Answer: Results of employment survey of Years 2003-04 and 2004-05 summarized in the table below show that our graduates are employed in many sectors. It is clear that demand for a sector can vary from year to year and that good number of our graduates are pursuing higher degrees after B.Eng. (Chemical Engineering).

Because the Master in the Art of Teaching candidates must be certified and practicing teachers to enter the program, they are already employed as teachers before they come to Marygrove. Generally, the candidates who earn the master's degree for reading or educational leadership are similarly employed teachers when they begin. Graduate students and Undergraduate/Post-Degree certification candidates frequently are employed as "emergency substitutes" or as "uncertified teachers" during the program.

Students who have worked hard and attained a good degree should be very well positioned to take advantage of the many exciting opportunities that careers in computing offer. Like many other computing courses, all our degrees provide a grounding in programming and software engineering which constitutes a solid foundation for traditional computing careers.

We offer placement services through which we match our chef graduates with appropriate positions in both the public and private sector.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics, positions for first line supervisors/managers are estimated to grow by 14% nationwide by 2014.

On average, it takes graduates two months to find their first job. In some areas like prosthetics where jobs are limited, it may take up to 12 months to find a position and may require taking a temporary job in the field while waiting for an available position in prosthetics. Graduates who want to be competitive in the job market must be willing to relocate.
