We do not recommend using our faux beams as a mantle because we do not offer end caps. When you cut down the faux beam to your correct width, you will see the hollow open ends. Each mantel is made of real Cast Stone, a man made limestone process that has been around over 600 years. This is a labor intensive process, but it's worth it for the finished mantel is so similar to cut limestone its hard to tell the difference and the price is a fraction of the cost of cut limestone. Yes, our panels do have some flex to them. The maximum deflection is 4" (per 4 foot panel). They can be bent either convex or concave. We highly recommend that you first put the faux panels in a warm room for at least an hour before you try to bend them. The warmth will help relax the panels and make them to bend easier.

Lamartine cannot recommend the use of any one type of solid fuel for coal fires. Due to the introduction of "petro-chemical" fuel with a high pep coke content, we have discovered that these fuels can cause serious damage to fireplaces, firebacks, baskets and hearths. These solid fuels can burn at extremely high temperatures, which no fireplace material at the moment can withstand. Please consult your local coal merchant for the correct fuel to use.

There are many types of synthetic (manufactured) logs on the market. You need to carefully read the instructions on the packaging. Those instructions should clearly mention whether the logs are approved for use in a fireplace (freestanding stove, zero clearance fireplace, or fireplace insert). If there is no restriction mentioned on the packaging, try to contact the log manufacturer. Some types of synthetic logs are forbidden for use in freestanding stoves.
