Blunt trauma is the measurement of the impact of a bullet on the body when the bullet or projectile has been successfully stopped in either SAP or HAP. The landed bullet will 'push' the armour into the body, the 'depth of the indent' the bullet creates is measured, 'blunt trauma' is this measurement. The NIJ standard has determined an acceptable level of blunt trauma as 44mm. The construction and calibre of ammunition other than those defined in NIJ will create different levels of trauma.

Excellent. Our trauma teams are composed of one half EM residents and one half surgery residents. The trauma teams have excellent communication during the resuscitations and we work very well together. We also have a three-month block combining trauma surgery, EM and the Surgical ICU. Trauma Resolution Therapy (TRT) is the application of ETM theory. It is a five phase structured process for resolving trauma at the source. All aspects of TRT support keeping the focus of the work on the etiology until the etiology is reversed i.e., the trauma is resolved. The five written phases can be completed in individual or group settings. There is a long form and a short form of TRT. The long form (five structured phases) is applied to long term trauma.

Trauma resuscitations are performed through coordination and cooperation with the surgical trauma team. There is a senior EM resident in the trauma bay 24 hours a day every day except during Thursday conferences. This resident is responsible for the airway on all trauma patients with back-up from the EM attending. Resucitations are run by the EM or trauma attending or senior resident present.
