Under Out Of Office Assistant, choose I'm Currently Out Of The Office and type the desired message in the text box.

Setting a vacation message is now easy via a web page. http://www.cns.ohiou.edu/email/ The vacation command returns a message to the sender of a mail message, saying that the recipient is on vacation or otherwise absent while at the same time allowing delivery of the message. The message reply may be customized as you like. The sender receives your vacation message, and the original mail is waiting in your mailbox when you return.

The first question to ask is whether this is what you really want. You should answer no if any of the following are true: You are on any public mailing lists. People on mailing lists don't take too kindly to "I am away from my mail" messages. You are not comfortable with running a couple of unix commands and/or you are not comfortable with editing files on unix. You are forwarding your mail to somewhere else (i.e. lamar for Webmail). In this case, your vacation message should be on lamar.

Log into WebMail and click the [Vacation] button in the WebMail toolbar. Follow the on-screen directions. Incoming and outgoing emails can't be any larger than 10 MB (The restriction is 2 MB when using WebMail). If you need to send someone a file larger than 10 MB, you can copy the file to your "html" web directory on akbar. Then email the web link to the person to use.

Since the installation of our new mail server we only support this on a per request basis. If you are planning on taking a vacation and would like an autoresponder set up please contact technical support and give us the date range, and the message you would like sent automatically. We hope to set up a way to do this automatically as time allows.

To setup a vacation message visit Settings -> Forward, Autorespond, Lists -> Setup Vacation Message. Select an identity (reply name and address) from the drop down and type in the Reply Subject and Reply Body. When you're done, click on the 'Update Vacation Message' button. If you incorrectly entered your password 3 times, then you will be locked out for 90 minutes. Short for digital subscriber line, a new technology that allows more data to be sent over existing copper telephone lines (POTS). DSL supports data rates up to 3 Mbps. DSL works by sending digital pulses in the high-frequency area of telephone wires. Since these high frequencies are not used by normal voice communications, DSL can operate simultaneously with voice connections over the same wires. DSL requires a special DSL modem.

You can set a vacation message to notify your senders that you are away from your mail. The new mail will stay in the INBOX of your account. For staff/students, login HKU Portal => click the tab MyEmail => click the Mail Utilities icon on the top menu => click the link Set Vacation Message OR, visit http://webmail.hku.hk and click the link Set/Unset Vacation Message. When you return from your vacation, remember to remove your vacation message.
