While you technically can use MS Word as your text editor I really suggest that you don't. Use Notepad instead. Word tries to write HTML for you and will make a mess of your document. I don't recommend it until you are more familiar with using HTML code and tags and can recognize what is supposed to be there and what MS Word has coded in for you. It is supposed to be a feature, but it is not a particularly helpful one.

In addition, you can now set some options in Outlook that you could previously work with only in Word. For example, you can now create and set a default signature or stationery from Outlook if Word is set as your e-mail editor. You can also specify some spell checker options and fonts for new messages and messages you forward or reply to. The full screen editors need to know how to navigate to arbitrary points on your screen, and hence need to know what type of terminal or terminal emulator you are using. Save your documents in the .doc format instead of the Word 2007 .docx format because your instructor might not have Word 2007 on his or her computer. Your instructor should be able to open any file in the .doc format. GNU Emacs. GNU Emacs is an extensible, customisable, self-documenting text editor that has been in development since 1984. The WYSIWYG (pronounced "whiz-e-wig") text editor box appears in the VLE whenever text is added to any of the areas.
