Yes, you do. Students accepted into an English language program for 18 hours per week or more need an F-1 visa.

You can stay in the United States on an expired F-1 visa as long as you maintain your student status. However, if you are returning home or traveling to a country where automatic revalidation does not apply, you must have a valid visa to return to the United States. Ensure that you have all the documentation you need for your visa application and allow sufficient time for processing a new visa.

Attendance must be full-time with only a few absences allowed. You must attend 90% of IELC classes in order to maintain your student status. Do I have to make good grades and pass my IELC classes? Yes - you must make progress in your studies to maintain your student status. Consistently failing IELC classes show that you are not making normal progress in your studies.

You have to be at least 18 years old to apply. There is no maximum age. If there is interest in a short-term program (for example, 2-4 weeks) for groups, a lower minimum age is possible provided there is a chaperone accompanying the group.

Many countries have a visa waiver arrangement with Japan, allowing you to visit for a certain period (usually, 3 or 6 months) to learn Japanese without any visa at all. A list of countries is available on the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs website. In addition, you can study with us for up to three months (in some cases, six months) on a standard tourist visa. It is possible to renew tourist visas, either from within Japan, or by visiting Korea (a short boat ride away).

To apply for the Intensive English Program you must submit your application form and a $200.00 deposit. The application can be submitted by email, by fax or by mail. We also have an on-line web-registration system.

Once you have enrolled and paid the deposit for your course, we will request from the school an 'acceptance document' which will give details of the course you have registered for and your accommodation. This document should be attached to your application form for a student visa. (For those students who can receive a visa upon arrival, this should be presented to the immigration officer). Students entering the United States on an F-1 student visa may apply for credit classes if they have received a TOEFL score of 500 (paper-based) or 173 (computer-based). If not, the Intensive English program should be taken first. If you have been attending a university or college, all transcripts for the semesters you attended the school and a letter stating you are a student in good standing. Nowadays, U.S. public high schools are prohibited from issuing Form I-20 to alien students. However, you may attend a private high school if this school is an USCIS-approved academic institution and can issue an I-20 to you.

You can study for up 12 weeks if you have a tourist visa or for up to 17 weeks on a working holiday visa. For longer study, you need a student visa.

Yes. However, almost all students take the full course-load in the ESL program. The courses are very closely tied together, and if a student tried to take just one or two of them, he/she might not understand materials that were taught in other classes on the same level.
