Since PDL is just a Perl package you need first of all an installation of Perl on your machine. As of this writing PDL requires version 5.004 of Perl, version 5.004_4 or higher is strongly recommended. More information on where and how to get a Perl installation can be found at the Perl home page http://www.perl.com and at many CPAN sites (if you do not know what CPAN is check the answer to the next question).

To run the PC-CDROM version, you need 4MB of memory, with at least 2700K of Extended Memory. The amount of base memory is not important, as Discworld uses the DOS4GW DOS extender.. which treats all memory as one block. You also need a Single Speed or upwards CD-ROM drive. Plus, a VGA card and display. A mouse is not essential but recommended if you want to pick out objects without the cursor sliding around like a giraffe on an ice-rink. Some sort of sound card is recommended.

null is a special token for 'empty piddle'. A null pdl can be used to flag to a PDL function that it should create an appropriately sized and typed piddle. Null piddles can be used in places where a PDL function expects an output or temporary argument. Output and temporary arguments are flagged in the signature of a PDL function with the [o] and [t] qualifiers (see next question if you don't know what the signature of a PDL function is).

Each instance of the engine is uniquely identified, and as such you do not want to copy the config from one folder to another. Simply install a new instance of the program into a different directory. Register it with your email address, and it will be up and running using your hyperthreaded or second processor. Give me a break. It's impossible to do everything and support everything. MT-NewsWatcher doesn't support System 6 or Sytem 7 and it never will. If you're still using System 7, there's tons of stuff you can't do, and running MT-NewsWatcher is only one of them. In addition, the capabilities of CLDC can be extended by adding profiles such as the Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) and/or optional packages.

Your PC becomes your gateway to receive faxes. Your faxes can be easily received, viewed and printed. There is no need for a second line to receive fax messages. If you use the same line for your computer modem, your fax and phone, with K7 (and "Call Forward Busy") you will never miss a call or fax. Before anything else, you need a "protocol stack". There are two main options here, Acorn's own Internet suite and Tom Hughes' FreeNet. These days there probably isn't very much to choose between the two; FreeNet has more features, but more people seem to use the Acorn version. Once you've got the stack, you need a hardware driver for whatever interface you want to use.

If you are installing MASM from the provided CD in the text book you can do one of two options that are the most efficient. On the CD there are 5 directories that contain the contents for MASM 611 per disk (i.e. "MASM611 1," "MASM611 2,""MASM611 3," etc.). You need to take the contents of those directories and copy them to a single directory on your machine. Be sure to keep the directory structure within those disk directories intact when copying.
