The Volume Manager (vold) is probably holding the device open. You can access a floppy through the volume manager by typing "volcheck" and looking in /floppy/*. CD-ROMs don't require volcheck; just insert one and the volume manager should automatically notice, and mount it under /cdrom/*. Unmount by typing "eject floppy" or "eject cdrom", respectively. The Volume Manager can be configured by editing /etc/vold.conf.

If you are using the KDE or Gnome Desktop Environments, using a floppy or CDROM is as easy as inserting your disc and clicking on the appropriate icon on the desktop. You can then read, copy, or delete files (delete from floppy only) to and from the device. It is VERY important to unmount the media before removing it from the drive. This generally means that there is no CDROM in the CDROM drive, or the drive is not visible on the bus. Feed the drive something, and/or check its master/slave status if it is IDE (ATAPI). It can take a couple of seconds for a CDROM drive to notice that it has been fed, so be patient. Sometimes a SCSI CDROM may be missed because it had not enough time to answer the bus reset. A drive may be manually mounted by selecting Places/Computer and then right clicking on the floppy drive icon and choosing Mount Volume. The drive can then be accessed from this window as well as the corresponding drive icon on the desktop. ANWSER: Read the INSTALL NOTES ! It's explained in there, you have to copy a so called crack to your game dir. The crack is usually located in the Crack folder on the CD. Usually there's just 1 file but sometimes there are more, copy all of them to your game dir where the main exe file is located. Overwrite it and try to run the game again. Sometimes you are unable to use the web grade book when at home. In such cases the program says it is busy, or that multiple instances of the grade book are running. Basically you need to delete the web grade book folder(s) from your computer to get rid of a corrupt file and then start the program back up. This means that another program on your computer is already using the audio capabilities of your machine and doesn't want to share them with Gong (or any other audio software). The solution is to stop the program which is using the audio system, and then come back to Gong. Possibly, you need to re-start Gong. Probably this is because your browser has a 'popup blocker'.
